Alice Cooper Books Symphonic Tour for 2014

The Rock Meets Classic tour’s mission statement promises “legendary voices of rock meeting a symphonic orchestra and a rock band.” And that’s exactly what they’ll be delivering next year, when Alice Cooper headlines a number of 2014 dates.

Not too many details of Cooper’s Rock Meets Classic run have been revealed, but we do know that he’ll be on the road with the show for a series of European dates taking place in March and April (you can take a look at the complete list below). Other confirmed acts include Midge Ure, Joe Lynn Turner and Kim Wilde. Primal Fear drummer Randy Black, a member of the Rock Meets Classic band, reacted to the news by saying, “It’s going to be more of those “pinch me” moments on this tour for sure! Can’t wait to start working on the songs.”

The tour will offer Cooper fans a chance to hear his music in a different setting, but this isn’t the rocker’s first experience with an orchestra; in 1999, he participated in the British Rock Symphony tour, appearing as part of a lineup that included Roger Daltrey, Eric Clapton and Ann Wilson of Heart. The Rock Meets Classic dates will be part of a busy year for Cooper, who’s also getting ready to release a new album of classic-rock covers.

Alice Cooper’s ‘Hey Stoopid’ Album Getting Reissued

Hey-Stoopid.jpg

Alice Cooper‘s 19th album is returning to stores with a few extra tracks.

‘Hey Stoopid,’ originally released in 1991, was recorded during a period of renewed commercial success for Cooper. His previous LP, 1989′s ‘Trash,’ spawned the Top 10 hit ‘Poison.’ When the time came to make the follow-up, a long list of Cooper’s hard-rock buddies came out for the sessions, including Slash, Ozzy Osbourne, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and Nikki Sixx and Mick Mars of Motley Crue. While the results weren’t quite as potent in terms of sales — ‘Hey Stoopid’ stalled at No. 47 on the chart, while the title track only made it as far as No. 78 on the Billboard Hot 100 — it remains one of Cooper’s higher-profile releases.

On Sept. 23, Hear No Evil Recordings will release an expanded edition of ‘Hey Stoopid’ that adds three bonus tracks: ‘It Rained All Night’ (previously released as a ‘Hey Stoopid’ B-side), a cover of Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Fire’ (originally issued as a B-side to the ‘Love’s a Loaded Gun’ single) and the ‘Hey Stoopid Beba Edit’ (originally released on the ‘Hey Stoopid’ CD single). The label’s press release doesn’t mention anything about remastering on the album, which is currently in print in its original incarnation.

For fans looking forward to new music from Cooper, the wait appears to be almost over: He recently revealed that his upcoming covers album should be out in spring 2014.

From hardradio.com

According to the New York Post, ALICE COOPER is in negotiations to play the Green Goblin in SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK, the rock musical with music and lyrics by U2's Bono and The Edge and a book by Julie Taymor, Glen Berger, and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. The idea of casting Cooper comes from the show's producer, Michael Cohl who's willing to pay Cooper $150,000 a week. The musical is based on the Spider-Man comics created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, published by Marvel Comics, as well as the 2002 film about the character, and the Greek myth of Arachne. It tells the story of the origin of the character, his romance with Mary Jane and his battles with the evil Green Goblin. Turn Off the Dark is the most expensive Broadway production in history.

This will probably be really cool, especially with Alice involved. A rare play I would actually go see, if it comes to Chicago.

It seems a long way from the glory days of Billion Dollar Babies. Alice Cooper was also involved in the Flash Fearless project (by members of Meal Ticket), as was Jim Dewar.
