Re: Pink Floyd

I love Piper as an album by itself, but it's not in my top five either, and I'm a pretty hardcore Floyd fan.

My top 5 at this moment in time are:

Animals
Atom Heart Mother
Obscured By Clouds
Meddle
Wish You Were Here

By the way LukeMC, love your avatar! :grinthumb

Re: Pink Floyd

Some of the Floyd albums had to grow on me,I now listen to them all and like them all.Piper At The Gates Of Dawn I liked instantly, then strangely, the more I listened to it,the more I went off it,I never reach for it now.

Re: Pink Floyd

I'd be interested to hear what your top 5's are. I don't think Piper makes it into my top 5 either, but given the competition it's up against, that's hardly an insult!

My list changes LukeMC, except for my top two favorites.

1. Dark Side Of The Moon
2. Meddle
3. Wish You Were Here
4. The Wall
5. Animals

Ah. Mine are the same five, though not necessarily in that order (Dark Side on top though for sure!)

When it comes to the bottom five (or so) I tend to place their pre-Meddle work on top of their post-Wall work, but you can probably appreciate that it's never easy to come up with something definitive. Ever since seeing Roger Waters perform The Wall last month (yep, had to throw that in there) I've had more sympathy for The Final Cut and even the post-Waters albums. Still can't knock Piper though, it really hits the spot for me. I almost feel bad for rating it below the top 5, but when you're considering the Floyd discography, their worst albums are better than a lot of band's best albums in my eyes.

Architect, thank you!
I love Atom Heart Mother (can you tell?) but I've never got into Obscured by Clouds. In fact it's probably one of the bottom albums on my list. I'll give it a spin some time soon with an open mind and see what comes of it. Admittedly it's been a while since I last heard it.

Obscured by Clouds is probably the least typical Floyd album. The closest thing to psychedelic might be Absolutely Curtains, and it seems as if they're stumbling their way through country-rock ballads, hard rock and :omg: love songs. Definitley unfamiliar territory for them. But it's quaint and I love it.

Pay particular attention to Burning Bridges and Mudmen. Especially Mudmen.

I would rate this Post Waters album #6 on my list. I loved the VHS edition of this concert tour as well.

^^^ I went to that concert (not that recording, but that tour) and was blown away by the light show. Delicate Sound of Thunder / Momentary Lapse of Reason tour was just incredible and will always be one of my favorte live albums, having specific memories directly connected to it.
