King's X Official Website

Coming out of the Texas metal scene in the mid '80's, King's X blend hard rock/heavy prog with hook laden metallic riffs, melodic vocal harmonies with Christian lyrics.

A power trio consisting of bassist/vocalist Doug Pinnick, Ty Tabor on guitar and vocals with drummer/vocalist Jerry Gaskill got together in 1980 and played the Missouri bar scene as a cover band until 1983 when the band statred doing thier own compositions and called themselves the Sneak Preview and released a very rare album(I never could find it).

The band moved to Houston, Texas in 1985 on a record contract they were offered but it failed to materialise, but two years later the band signed to the Megaforce label and changed thier name to King's X and released thier debut album, Out Of The Silent Planet in 1988.

Albums:

1983 Sneak Preview (as Sneak Preview)
1988 Out of the Silent Planet
1989 Gretchen Goes to Nebraska
1990 Faith Hope Love
1992 King's X
1994 Dogman
1996 Ear Candy
1997 Best of King's X
1998 Tape Head
2000 Please Come Home... Mr. Bulbous
2001 Manic Moonlight
2003 Black Like Sunday
2004 Live All Over the Place
2005 Rehearsal CD Vol. 1 (EP)
2005 Ogre Tones
2007 Live & Live Some More
2008 XV

_________________________________________________________________

A fantastic debut, Out Of The Silent Planet(1988) with great musicianship, vocals and excellent backing harmony vocals with intelligent and spiritual lyrics.
Fantastic grungy guitar with tons of bottom end depth on the bass and drums.
This was something I never quite heard before when I laid my ears to this album back in '88 when the metal/hard rock scene was dominated by the cookie cutter priestess hair bands. Unfortunately the album didn't do well though highly praised by critics.

Nice OP Joe!
I'm going to have to give them a bit more of listen to really hear them but they sound good so far.

Re: King's X

I know this band, their early works, anyway. My brother lived in Missouri and saw them in a bar as Sneak Preview and followed them through their first couple releases as King's X.

I have their Sneak Preview album :D

Re: King's X

To me it is priceless, joe. My brother gave it to me years ago and I wouldn't part with it.

I googled it just to see what it may be worth, and it is in the ballpark of $300.

I'm not surprised that it is worth $300. But like you said Magic, it's priceless to you.

I have Fragile on cassette and was given to me by a stranger that p/u me up hitch hiking one night and introduced to me Yes. Priceless. I got rid of all my cassettes except that one.

I am a hoarder, joe. I still have my 45's, 8 tracks, and cassettes.......cant bring myself to part with any of them. I even have these really thick vinyl 78's that were my mom's.

Re: King's X

I kinda wished that I kept my cassettes as a lot of the music I never did replace. My vinyl is enough to look after.

Ooh, I like this. The vocalist especially. Very cool band, I hadn't heard of them before this, so it's new to me. I dig it though.
