King's X Official Website
Coming out of the Texas metal scene in the mid '80's, King's X blend hard rock/heavy prog with hook laden metallic riffs, melodic vocal harmonies with Christian lyrics.
A power trio consisting of bassist/vocalist Doug Pinnick, Ty Tabor on guitar and vocals with drummer/vocalist Jerry Gaskill got together in 1980 and played the Missouri bar scene as a cover band until 1983 when the band statred doing thier own compositions and called themselves the Sneak Preview and released a very rare album(I never could find it).
The band moved to Houston, Texas in 1985 on a record contract they were offered but it failed to materialise, but two years later the band signed to the Megaforce label and changed thier name to King's X and released thier debut album, Out Of The Silent Planet in 1988.

A fantastic debut, Out Of The Silent Planet(1988) with great musicianship, vocals and excellent backing harmony vocals with intelligent and spiritual lyrics.
Fantastic grungy guitar with tons of bottom end depth on the bass and drums.
This was something I never quite heard before when I laid my ears to this album back in '88 when the metal/hard rock scene was dominated by the cookie cutter priestess hair bands. Unfortunately the album didn't do well though highly praised by critics.
