Re: Atlanta Rhythm Section

I was never a big ARS fan, but "The Ballad of Lois Malone" is one of my favorite songs of all time.

I really don't know much by them but every time I hear an ARS song, I'm always impressed with the guitar work on it. That version of Spooky just kills. I definitely need to listen to more of this band.

All the musicianship is definitely top notch, they keep it simple enough to be straight forward rock n roll, but add their own special taste to make it something no one had ever heard before, and honestly.. I haven't heard another band that sounds like them at all, Unique, easy to identify with the tunes, and good musicians.. can't be a bad thing.. something for everyone IMO:grinthumb

a favorite tune of mine

Re: Atlanta Rhythm Section

Time for another album, this one is "Dog Days", released in 1975. I took a picture of my vinyl copy, which has survived all these years somehow. This is their third record and ARS had definitely perfected their own signature sound. Straight up southern boogie rock at it's best. One thing I liked about ARS and always have is they didn't just copy the Allman Brothers or Lynyrd Skynyrd or the other southern bands, they had a great sound of their own that was accessible and there is nothing wrong with that.

Next is "Red Tape", probably the hardest rockin' album ARS ever released. It is well produced the songs are good and my favorite track is the 7+ minute "Another Man's Woman". Paul Goddard one of my favorite bassists gets to stretch out a little on that one. I would say this is one of their top three albums, and it comes packaged with Dog Days in a two for one CD, that is what I got to replace my old vinyl copies.(I know Rock & Roll Alternative was after Dog Days but seeing this album was packaged with DD I figured I would do it next.)

One of their best songs, and a great example of Southern Rock at it's finest.
