I saw Rod Stewart and the Faces in Melbourne Australia at an outdoor gig in 1974. I was clinging to the front of the stage hanging in mid air so I could get a better look. I know some girls rushed on stage and started to tear him apart. It was pretty wild. Ron Wood was on guitar.

Just an observation - The radio station I listen to all of the time here in the UK is 'Planet Rock'. The core play list is '60s/'70s/'80s rock, with some of the better modern stuff thrown in. The Faces get a lot of air time, but Rod's individual tracks are NEVER played. Does this mean that (in their perception) Rod is/was not rock? Personally I always liked Rod's stuff, even allowing for some over-production and slightly embarrassing videos

^^I don't listen to radio much anymore Johnny, not even streaming internet stations. You are more likely to hear "Maggie May" than any other of his hit songs. My personal favorite is "Tonight's The Night", for some reason I've always loved that tune.

I consider Rod rock 'n roll, but he was also very folk oriented at times. Nowadays he's all about being a 'lounge singer' from what I can tell. I don't own any of his Songbook series of covers but I guess he's made a ton of money on them.

I've always liked (and as a listener, appreciated) the concept that Footloose And Fancy Free had a fast side (1) and a slow side (2).

So you could listen to one side or the other to suit your particular mood. And for me that side was usually Side 1:

Hot Legs
You're Insane
You're In My Heart
Born Loose

But even Side 2 was good from time to time:

You Keep Me Hanging On
If Loving You Is Wrong I Don't Want To Be Right
You've Got A Nerve
I Was Only Joking

My other most-favorite Rod The Mod songs are: "Blind Prayer", "The First Cut Is The Deepest", "Stone Cold Sober", "Three Time Loser" and "Ain't Love A Bitch" (to mention a few)

And this one by The Faces:
