I don't have a stereo myself, only somecomputer speakers that I've played loud music on for two years.

However, my parents have a sweet setup, headlined by these speakers:

The lobby of the Ritz hotel.
I have three phonographs.

Two of which are those shit knockoff "nostalgic" stereos that can be found in department stores over the holidays. They're nice and everything, but nothing compares to my baby!

I have a record player from the early 1960's. It's a Singer brand portable. I bought it in an antique shop on Blitz in '08, for 40$.

I have a photograph:

The little darling was ALSO used in a project I was working on several weeks ago (note the editing is a little shoddy because the photo was mostly just intended for avatars and smaller displays).

It's my lovely little treasure! I've only used it a couple times, though. It needs to be handled with much love, and it's rather delicate due to its age. It's less of a disgrace to my vinyl, though. ;D

Looks like we're in the same price range b.o.b. and it works fiiiine for me - your set-up looks a-ok in my book.

And I forgot that I have a cheap dvd/VHS thing too... works great. And I used to hook up my computer to my amp but don't do it anymore since I got a great Creative 2.1 speaker thing for my computer.

I'm a student and thus don't have the money for nice turntables and such...

This is my solution:

12Hz-22kHz sony earbuds. Connected to a Zen microphoto by Creative:

I don't listen to music alot at home and if I do i use my MP3 player often..; but my PC has these:

Overall not the quality I'd like, not at all. But in the end I prefer a beer with some friends over über-quality music for now.

Very cool - and there's absolutely no need to start buying hifi stuff too early. Seems to me you're doing the right thing by waiting. And I've got a similar 2.1 thing with my computer and it plays pretty damn good anyway.

When the time comes and you get some money for a bit of hifi, do yourself a favour and read a stack of hifi-magazines before you buy anything. Either buy a couple of maybe your library will have 'em. 3-6 months before you wanna buy stuff... research it a bit, read tests and stuff. It gives you a great idea on what you want and not least what you need. And what you don't need. And it enables you to buy cheap and get 'expensive' sound... :heybaby:

Digital Sources

My current digital sources are a 2nd-generation Rega Planet CD player used as a transport only, fed through a Modwright-modified Channel Islands Audio DAC/power supply. That's the Rega on top:

Underneath the Rega is a garden variety Sony SACD changer. I prefer SACD among the hi-res formats, and I had Matt Anker modify this Sony for me.

A friend of mine has the very same Rega cd-player - except in black. It really is a stellar piece of machinery. I especially remember listening to Tom Waits/Swordfishtrombones and it just sounded exceptionally good :grinthumb

Yeah I loved the look and feel of the switches on my old Yamaha,,,I am still kicking myself for ever parting with it...:wa:

Now there's a classic amp-beast if ever I saw one - I see you speak from personal experience on parting with amps - and with a profound sense of deep mourning and loss too :wa: :lmao:

Yeah, I forgot about my Logitech 2.1 speaker thing :grinthumb. Not bad at all. But I like to use more the amplifier. All I need now is a turntable. I still have many old vinyl LP's and my old turntable is broken.
