I don't mind black either, but so much of my later collection is black I love the real wood of my monitors, they even Smell good.:D

You have a great set-up Flip, nice to have you join the stereo party in Hep's sitting room...:grinthumb

Don't ever part with it Flip, they don't make them like that anymore. I would send it in to have new power supplies upgraded and a couple of other things and it will last almost forever.

I'd never part with it if I can help it - it's a thing of beauty. I just had it fixed, just a couple of switches that needed a bit of tlc. That's the only maintenance it's had. It's got quite a bit of muscle too - which the Dali's need so... pretty good match.

All my gear was mid-range test-winners at the time, carefully selected and built to last me if not a lifetime then definately as long as dang well possible. Most of my friends bought and replaced and it never stopped... I was lucky to find the right stuff right away :D

Me too I still have three major pieces from the late 70's that work as good as new. I sold my old Yamaha Integrated amp and have regretted it ever since. I just loved that amplifier.

There are specialists that will refurbish old electronics here, they love the old equipment and do it as a hobby, and don't think most of the newer equipment is very high quality. I have to agree with them.

I've been looking at a Yamaha amplifier just because. If and when I strike on a SACD player I'll be missing only another amplifier to set up a second system in my bedroom.

I almost bought one on e-bay three years ago, but the damned bleep kept raising the price everyday till it was ridiculous...and I have only seen one for sale since then.

I do have a Yamaha 7.1 surround amp for my DVD rig, but it is not as good as the one I owned in 1979...the quality is just not as high.

So I was looking for a picture of "When the Music's Over" by the Doors and I found this gem that fits much better here safe from prying eyes than it does in any Doors' thread:

The house stereo is a Dell Inspiron E1405 lol. The majority of my audio is in vehicles, the last decent stereo I had was in my old GMC Sonoma that consisted of a Pioneer Head Unit, Boston Acoustic 6.5'' in the doors, 4 12'' Rockford Fosgate subs, 3 10'' Rockford's, 2 6x9 Rockfords and 2 4'' Rockfords. I could shake things off the shelf at the local Advance Auto Parts. :grinthumb
