I've seen this done and took part on other forums too. Same as what has been mentioned where a member is chosen for a month or a couple of weeks and all the other members leave a bunch of questions for that chosen member. Its a great way to get to know people better and so much fun when the questions get totally random.

A month or even a couple of weeks seems like a long time for so many members. :dunno:

Part of me thinks it's fine but also kind of sees cons! For me I've always been more about music content in the forum first and then social aspects second. I think that we have a great group of members that offers that BUT those are the ones that stay. I think that for some new members, particularly younger ones, they might just come in for chat and if I'm completely honest SOME come in for plain old attention. I take it the thread is exclusively a second level of introductions or a more in depth followup to the introduction thread. What I fear is that a new member may come in, hone in on that thread and sit there until they ride it out and leave or not contribute to much else. For me, I prefer the nature of gradually getting to know someone over time and being surprised as you find out more details. I'm not AGAINST the idea if the majority of members/staff are in favor of it but it's not a group I want to manage as had been mentioned. If one of the mods was into it and wants to make this their project then that's cool as well! That's my two cents weighing the pros and cons! :)

Well if you make a poll, I vote NO. I see this as people getting their feelings hurt for not wanting to take a turn, or not wanting to answer a certain question. The Internet is funny that way. This is a music forum, not Facebook. That's my two cents.

Yeah, I kind of like when people jump right into the forum. I want to stress that the original idea isn't a bad suggestion. It's just a matter if it best fits the atmosphere or even adds to the one we have currently! :)

Agree, that is my main argument against it. I also think there's a potential of things running out of hand, getting too personal etc.

That's what I'm afraid of. I don't want people to feel pressured to answer a personal question, and then they regret it. It is something that could easily get out of control and end up getting people hurt. I know I won't play it. I guess the administration could take a poll, after they completely explained it. I still would vote no.

First of all, I don't think we need to have a member targeted for a period of time. I think it would be best to allow everyone to create a thread where people can go to and ask that person questions. It's a great way for members to interact and get to know each other better. I find it even more interesting since this is a forum about music. As for members feeling uncomfortable here's how to avoid it with some simple guidelines:

1) If you want to make your own topic, you are more than welcome to do so. If you don't want to make a topic and just want to ask other people questions, that is fine too.

2) When asking other people questions, please use good judgement and think about what you are asking before you ask it.

3) If there is any particular posts that you would like removed from your topic OR you want your thread deleted all together, PM a staff member.

4) You don't have to answer a question if you don't want to.

I think the same...
and I also agree with what Sooty wrote.

When I said that it would have been funny, I kind of imagined something else...
for instance a sorta questionnaire, available for whoever wanted to answer to it... and that was it.

Farther, I was thinking that we have the "journal" to speak about us...

Well, anyway, I'm curious to know what will be decided...
(while my opinon is a "work-in-progress" about this issue XD)

I wasn't suggesting that's how it should be done, merely saying how I've seen it on other forums. To be fair, both the other forums have over 30,000 members and a much higher daily percentage of posters than here so they can afford to leave threads like that open for a month. I couldn't see it working on here simply because of the smaller amount of posters.

Not to advertise or anything but you can see here how well this has worked for another forum half as big as this one. There has never been an 'incident' and it has helped members to get to know each other better and have fun.
