Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Show: Many Inductees Won’t Perform, Tix Priced High High High | Showbiz411 ... -high-high

MANY INDUCTEES WON'T PERFORM; TIX PRICED HIGH HIGH HIGH

The incredibly greedy Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation is at it again. And this time they may have painted themselves into a corner. The April 10th induction ceremony at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn is turning into a disaster.

This week KISS announced they’re not playing. Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley have not asked original but departed members Ace Frehley and Peter Criss to play with them. Simmons wants KISS’s newer members to play. So no one will play. The group looks like it’s bruising for a fight similar to Blondie several years ago. Nirvana won’t play without Kurt Cobain. If they did, they’d be the Foo Fighters. So scratch them.

Linda Ronstadt doesn’t perform anymore. If she even comes, someone else will have to do the honors.

The E Street Band was finally inducted this year to appease Bruce Springsteen. He was inducted years ago without them. Bruce and co. are on tour but they’re off on April 10th. Will Bruce play with them? Or will Steve van Zandt lead the group? The award is for them, in fact.

And then there’s the question of Cat Stevens. He’s Yusuf Islam now. And he’s had visa problems in the past. Will he make it? Will he allow anyone to call him Cat? Will he perform “Peace Train” if he performs at all?

Then there are the ticket prices. Tickets have already gone to scalpers. On Excite, the good seats are going for over $7,ooo. And they’re not even on the floor! Floor seats are reserved for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, which is selling tables for a range that goes up to $50,000. The inductees only get a plus one– that’s right! Want your kids to come? You gotta pay up. And past inductees– everyone from Paul McCartney to the O’Jays– have to buy tickets. There are no freebies except maybe for Yoko Ono and Jann Wenner’s family.

That's just insane. In a world where kids are dying of hunger and people are forced to live on the streets, they have the nerve to charge that kind of money for a f**ucking ceremony (that less and less people take seriously anyway). Stuff like that pisses me off. :mad

I don't get this bit?

Why won't they play? I mean the two new guys are simply employees so who's decision is it for them not to play?

I will read the article....

OK, still confused. Did anyone else get who's decision it was not to play? Was it the hall insisting they include original members (not likely and uncharacteristically cool of them) or Kiss themselves?

Maybe I'm just thick as a brick on this one...

Wow! For once in my life I have to say hats off to the Schlock and Payola Hall of Shame.

It really cracks me up that the first time I went there we just happened to be driving through Cleveland on our way to Canyon lands in Utah when I talked my friend into stopping by there. He was apparently already aware the people who ran the hall were just posers of the worst kind and wasn't happy at all about going there refusing to buy a ticket (in all honesty I was prepared to buy both tickets even though at $15 each I thought it was a rip off).
Fate intervened and the day we got there they were closed to the general public because of some black tie thing going on.
I said why not just see if we can blow past the door guy and walk around? My friend (who was a veteran of many crashed concerts and events) laughed and said 'why not'? We walked up the stairs in front of the place and there were more than a couple security people so I fully expected someone to tell us we had to go (being that we were both dressed in jeans and me with a home made Screaming Trees t shirt on) but as we approached the door someone asked us if we were with the band so we both grunted and in we went.

My buddy is a very good guitar player so I almost hoped they would have ushered us to the stage. In fact they just left us to wander around the whole place. The tuna steak they had was already a little dried out but hey it was free and we were both hungry so....

Since then I revisited because we were headed out to California and my sister really wanted to see it. There were a few more things to see during normal working hours but the place is hardly worth the admission price. If they were smart they'd have a section for actual rock bands (even amateur or semi pro) and charge extra for that.

Maybe even a bar?

Sorry, rambling....

All I can do is snicker.....

Although I can't help but thinking Gene Simmons will take a huge payoff and allow the original members to play.

Nothing tickles me more than the unfolding of extortion and greed in the music industry.

Well, I don't think KISS gets all the credit. It looks like a perfect storm of various acts not performing, insane ticket prices and the Hall's usual greed. It was a long time coming. It'll be interesting to see how (and if) Jann can save his bacon on this one.
