See kids, this is why you shouldn't keep smoking the resin
What the hell is this type of comment. Actually maybe you should talk to mr Page about that when I saw him in the 70's he was the one as high as a kite. Sorry chief don't touch the stuff. But you can keep up the good work of trashing prog and insulting me. Glad you think it's funny haha

I never said that ALL of it was emotionless, I said "the vast majority of prog is emotionless showboating by the various musicians", and I stick by that ... "vast majority".
.
Really so you have heard the vast majority of prog ? Somehow I doubt that considering there are 1000's of prog albums, the majority don't even have solos.

I can talk about good and bad points with prog all that i like, it has NOTHING to do with you.

As for the "Mr Page" comment, you are the one that brought him up in a prog thread. I wasn't aware that Zeppelin or Page's solo career or any of his other projects were prog, but feel free to enlighten me on the topic since you are self-appointed expert. Even if he was, which he isn't, I highly doubt that all 145 pounds of him would be taking a swing at anyone.

As for insulting you, tough shit. Don't like your own medicine? Then I'd suggest that you either go back to where you came from or man the F up and eat the crow you don't mind dishing out to me.

Funny? Yeah I have no problem laughing at you. None whatsoever.

And I highly doubt that you've heard the vast majority of the stuff that ~I~ like, yet you don't mind ripping me or the music that I like using nearly the exact same verbage.

So... I firmly believe that the obvious generalization in the comment implies "vast majority of what I've heard". Sorry, didn't think I'd have to explain that. My bad.

Pretty sure the exact quote was "the crap u love".

So again, it's ok for you to insult but not ok to get it in return? (just like how you run things at the lesser site?)

I just don't go around locking threads, deleting posts and banning posters where people have differing opinions. A big part of what makes us a LOT different.

Anyway, whatever. I gave my opinions on the question/topic at hand.

Well, I said it would polarise and I was right. Some interesting comments. Most if not all of the comments above are more measured than those of the journalist in Classic Rock magazine (and don't get me wrong, generally I think the CR journalistic standard is high, hence the surprise).

My observation is that part of it has its source in a pre-conceived idea that the rawer the musical form the more feeling therein. And the answer to that is that it depends on the musical form in question. By definition, soul with no "soul" is not that thing. Same obvious point with blues.

Prog on the other hand, takes a longer less linear route. It still arrives at the human predicament but not directly and sometimes that route is a 1.4 hour concept LP (e.g. Dream Theater's Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From A Memory) that is no less emotionally valid than, say, Otis Redding's Otis Blue.

Complexity does not equate to an emotionless void. For those still undecided, listen again. Maybe start with Dark Side of The Moon, move onto Script From A Jester's Tear and finish with DT's Images and Words. Happy listening.

I agree with your stament about Dark Side and Script. However not with Image. I detets the vocals from DT and a bit less the musical muscle flexing.
