Re: Most Influential of of Decade

I am going to show some love for Radiohead, at least I Like them and they are not a manufactured product unlike most of the bands listed. And any list that has that idiot in first place is not worth consideration, I don't have one of his songs in my library and NEVER will either.

Seems to me like the Post is giving some free PR to these people. The only ones on there that are truly "influential" would be Radiohead and maybe the White Stripes.

I like Lady GaGa, but influential, no way!!

I like everything about Lady GaGa.....except her music, which since she's a musician (though I suppose many people would argue that) that should probably be the most important thing...

I love Lady Ga Ga and her music. But as I asked in the beginning, who are they supposed to have influenced? Other musicians or the listening public.

Re: Most Influential of of Decade

I remember having a conversation about this on a different forum. The general consensus there was that Coldplay, Muse and Radiohead were the only three bands to consistently create good music that sold well worldwide for the last 10 years.

I'm more concerned about Taylor Swift being there than anyone else, since she was in primary school in 2001 when Coldplay released Parachutes, arguably their best album. (though I prefer Rush Of Blood personally)

For a true music fan to read that list, it makes me feel ill. It is just proof that the industry is trying to shove "pop" music down our throats.

Agreed.

That list is a disgrace, BTW.

True, but don't blame The Washington Post. I blame the listening public out there these days. It's their listening and purchasing habits that made these execrable acts big.

Periodically threads with names like "Is rock dead?" surface and a common answer is "No, there's good rock being recorded these days, you just have to go out there and dig for it." Well that's just the point. The vast majority of big selling acts are outright trash these days. It used to be the case that really good stuff was on the charts mixed in with the forgettable stuff but no more.

It really makes me want to go out and kick the ass of the next suburban kid I see wearing the badges of the modern day adolescent identity crisis i.e. baggy jeans and a baseball cap on sideways/backwards - and listening to Limp Bizkit or Britney Spears on his iPod or whatever those thingies are called.

You're describing most of the people I went to school with. It's easy to understand why I became a bit of an outcast (only had 2 friends) when I had to spend 30 hours a week with them, and listen to them drool over the new songs by linkin park, fall out boy or akon :banghead:

^^But you survived the "Trial by Fire" wiser and stronger and have Found great music from all eras, so I would say you did very well for yourself Sal, and we love having you here. You have introduced me to some new bands I never would have known about otherwise.:grinthumb

Thanks LG

I know I've moved on from those days to much greener pastures, but often I can't help reminiscing. Oh well, I'll get over it eventually :grinthumb
