He died three weeks before I saw Ozzy. We thought for sure the show would be cancelled but Brad Gillis stepped in to try and fill some pretty big shoes.

That must have been the first week of Brad's fill in, Bernie Torme was there for just a couple weeks before Brad. Brad really did a fine job in such a short notice to fill those shoes.

Such a shame that he died in that accident... and a preventable one at that. incredible talent that gave us a lot in just a couple of short years. Imagine what sort of things he could have done if he were still alive today.

RIP R.R.

I just did a little research and from what I found, Torme did his first show on April 1st in Bethlehem PA. His last show was April 10 in Rochester, NY. Gillis did his first show with Ozzy on April 13 in Binghamton, NY. We saw Ozzy on the 9th in Buffalo, so we saw Torme, not Gillis. I always assumed it was Gillis. I didn't know Torme stepped in for a couple weeks. We didn't even know who was filling in for Rhoads at the time. I was 14, and we were going to see OZZY!! I heard a few weeks later on the radio that Gillis was Ozzy's new guitarist, so naturally......

If you hadn't replied to my post, I might have thought it was Gillis for the rest of my life. :oyea:

Thanks for ruining it, eh!! :oyea:

RS: you actually have a cooler story than if you had seen Gillis. Even most casual Ozzy fans are aware of Gillis' short stint with Ozzy (which lasted several months and included a live album), however a great many people aren't even aware of Bernie Torme's time inbetween Randy and Brad. You saw a very small/short piece of history that very few can make claim to.

;) Think aboot it. ;)

Oh yeah, you make a great point and I realized that after I thought about it for awhile. It's just a strange feeling thinking one thing for 30 years and then finding out you were wrong. I found a dvd from the tour with Gillis a couple weeks ago and I was really excited. I didn't know any of the shows were recorded on film. I watched it thinking....I saw this and now I really didn't. One thing that really stands out from the show I saw was Torme's guitar solo. It was eerily similar to Jimmy Page on Heartbreaker. I thought it was a great show. He really did a great job on such short notice. Of course, I was only 14, so what the hell did I know?

I saw Ozzy about 2 months after Randy Died. Ozzy looked like a wreck (understandably so) and seemed to be going through the motions, but Brad Gillis was trying his hardest to seem "metal" and play the songs right, which he did. He did a great job.
