Lonesome Crow is kinda hard to listen to but Michael Schenker's guitarwork is unbelievable.

Yeah when you hear the first album and realize it was recorded in 1972 it hits home that these guys were on the vanguard of metal.

Depending on how you look at it, the Scorpions are the oldest and longest running metal band of all time. Formed in 1965.

Yeah, but Schenkers sound on Lonesome Crow is clearly ripped from the Tony Iommi/Mick Abrahms school. I'm not sure what they would have sounded like without Michael and Klaus. I'd wager it was a whole lot different.

Fly To The Rainbow is much more harder to listen to than Lonesome Crow to me. I like the description of Lonesome Crow and I agree, this is how Jethro Tull would sound like if Iommi stayed with them.

Yeah, me too. I love Fly to the Rainbow and all the Uli albums but Lonesome Crow is my absolute favorite Scorps album. It doesn't have my absolute favorite Scorps song but there isn't one less that great moment on the whole disc.

I love the Uli Jon era Scorpions (not that Matthias is any slouch on the guitar). His style is so unique. They can be in your face one minute (Sails of Charon) and smooth as an evening breeze (Born to Touch Your Feelings) then next. Their first lp that I bought was Taken by Force, but I’d been hearing a lot of their earlier songs on the radio. I did, eventually, pick up their earlier works. I like the import cover better than the US cover. I was familiar with producer Dieter Dierks from some Tangerine Dream and Nektar lps that I had.

Speaking of covers, the original Virgin Killer and Lovedrive covers were controversial when they were released, and were rereleased with alternate covers.

I was lucky enough to have my copy of Animal Magnetism autographed by the band. They had a signing at a Sound Warehouse (record shop) a few hours before their show. They opened for Sammy Hagar and played for about 45 minutes. Short but sweet.

I didn’t enjoy their releases as much after the Love at First Sting lp. Maybe my tastes had changed.

I have Unbreakable and Sting in the Tail, but I don’t think I’ve listened to each of them more than once. I need to give them another spin.

The last entire Scorpions album I enjoyed was Blackout. After that, they had their moments but to me it was usually just a song here and there and never as good as the Uli or the early Mathias Jabbs albums. Lovedrive is a masterpiece but sadly (to me) marks the beginning of the end for this awesome band. It's true that they never sank to the levels of cheese that a lot of 70s bands did but they kind of embraced that 80s cock rock phoney metal crap and....

Oh, never mind. I'm rambling.

These Kraut muthaf**ker's were pretty cool in a creepy way.

I actually like there 1st album LONESOME CROW from 1972 although most of there albums from the 1970s and early 1980s are a pretty good listen with the exception of FLY TO THE RAINBOW in 1974 and there stupid 'power ballads' from the mid-1980s which are total w**k!!.

The LOVE DRIVE album from 1979 is there best album.
