Easily "Americana" -- Neil Young & Crazy Horse.

Probably a shoe in for album of the year. But Neil has another album coming out supposedly, and Taylor Swift's new record could provide some competition as well.

As of right now I'd say probably "What We Saw From The Cheap Seats" by Regina Spektor followed by the Lumineer's self titled album.

I'm sure this will probably change by the end of the year though because there are some great things coming down the pipe in the second half of this year. The Darkness, Mumford & Sons, Ben Folds Five, and a whole lot more.

Cosmic, those were great and I'm actually looking forward to those same new releases! I also loved the releases by The Used, Sigur Ros, The All-American Rejects, Shinedown, etc. and new bands like Dry The River, Hilary Hahn & Hauschka, Fun., Heavy Blanket, etc. as well! :grinthumb

I know all about what you've been listening to this year by following your Best of 2012 playlist on Spotify. ;)

Rush's Clockwork Angels for me. I do like the new Van Halen record too. It makes me cringe though when I hear Roth butchering their songs live.

I honestly can't say which album is my favourite so far this year, but these are some of the ones I have been impressed with so far....

Springsteen - Wrecking Ball
Jack White - Blunderbuss
Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Americana
John Mayer - Born and Raised
Rush - Clockwork Angels

Probably Clockwork Angels by Rush, despite everything I've said. 20/20 by Saga, Joe Walsh's Analog Man and Neil Young's Americana are pretty good. Some of my favorites this year have been the Thin Lizzy reissues - do they count?

There have been some disappointments for me:

Weapon of Choice by The Cult - rank with Rush for frustration factor
Bring Heavy Rock to the Land by Jorn lande - a big let down, following a consistent run of solo albums
Brilliant by Ultravox - nothing to match Sleepwalk
Shape Shifter by Santana - good guitar as always, but something missing
Squackett - should've been great, but isn't
Thick as a Brick 2 by Ian Anderson - sequels have to be outstanding in order to avoid negative comparison
Tits 'n' Ass by Golden Earring - another big let down, through lack of instrumentation
