It is trickery.

It's all about image now, not sound. What can we sell to as many idiots as possible?

You ever hear any Bill Hicks? He had a bit about how, at the time (Bill died in 1994) Debbie Gibson was the #1 album in America. His point was what the hell happened to us, where is Jimi Hendrix and music that had guts and soul and a conscience?

I read an article a few years ago where Stevie Wonder said he wouldn't get signed if he came on the scene today.

You are right about that Stevie Wonder and a host of other talented people would be lost in today's music scene if they were starting out.

Who knows it might come full circle again, we need another "Punk" invasion to shake up the entire industry again, the mainstream side of it anyway.

But it goes to show you the level and technical trust you can have if you sing like shit and depend on auto-tune to fix your vocals..

But my complaint against auto-tune is that it sounds like shit. I wouldn't mind it, if it actually sounded good.

I think that effect has been so over done. I have a friend that sings and always has to use that effect and all of his songs, it's insane..

The only auto-tune song I can stand even though I don't listen to Cher like that, heh..

I'm going to zero in on the actual time auto tune made it's debut.. But I'm thinkin.. both Cher and Madonna changed lanes during the "Do You Believe In Love" and Madonna's Music CD ( which is pretty awesome for a auto tune work of art)But...... they gave it a seal of approval..
So you can jump in one of those modern day photo booth and sing a song and print out your own personal song to hit the charts..
Kinda seems like that dosn't it????

When you hear some groups caterwalling, while performing live on TV, they must be using autotune on their records. Either that, or they record loads of takes and edit them together. Bands like The Beatles, The Kinks, The Who, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath weren't great by accident, they played live over and over. These days, a group can become big stars without playing live at all.

My sentiments exactly. It not only makes non singers into recording artists but it doesn't even sound good. I could see it used sparingly as a technique in a recording....maybe, but as a lead vocal?

Really?

I can't stand autotune... like some previously stated, older bands rehearsed and rehearsed to get their vocals sounding good. Autotune is a sham and real talent and hard work is thrown out the window, yet these people are making millions of dollars.
I know people will hate this, but look at Justin Beiber - he first posted videos of himself singing and playing guitar, had a good voice - but then these greedy profit mongering business execs suck him in and produce his crap and now he is a little douche making autotuned garbage music. Maybe he could have been a decent singer songwriter 30-40 years ago? We will never know...

Anyways PLEASE let the autotune phase run out soon!!!!!

Recently while I was flipping through the channels I came on the reality show Kardashians and seen Chris Jenner is now in business with the big time producer Babyface.. She mentioned she wanted to do a song and what does he say?? " We can use alot of auto tune to make it sound good"
Now I know we are all in for the Jenner daughters( The two youngest on the show) cutting a song and they played a little bit of it and of course AUTO TUNED to death..

Haven't you heard Kim Kardashian's song, Slippy? It was the joke of YouTube and I think the insults are still going. I dare you to sit through it. Tell me this isn't autotune at its worst:

:puke:

Agreed on Madonna's career turn with "Music". It wasn't anything special, and that's where she went from accomplished pop superstar to creepy wrinkly cougar skank to me. Then again, "Ray of Light" is the high point of her career artistically (to me) so it could only go downhill from there. She never ceases to amaze me with the crap she's putting out these days, further cheapening her image and accomplishments and making herself more of a joke when she's one of the most iconic artists ever.
