I've been on a bit of a Heart kick lately and I happened to run into a version of Carrie Underwood singing the song on stage with Heart (which I `think` I posted in the Heart thread).

Got me to wrondering if she did it anywhere else and I ran into this performance of hers on American Idol. Definitely worth sharing. I'm not a fan of the show in the least, but they have had a couple of contenstants that actually can sing ... Carrie is one of them. Holy crap this woman can sing!

If I remember correctly Lynch, after that performance Simon Cowell's mind was set and he told Carrie that not only was she going to win the competition but she would be the highest-selling Idol ever. He was right. :grinthumb

well if he said that, he was spot on. I first heard some of her country not long after she won and I knew right away she had a pretty good voice. Then I saw her do some tribute song (9/11 tribute maybe? or some military tribute) a couple yrs ago on youtube and I got chills. The woman gave me goosebumps on my arms that almost hurt. I think it was at some country music awards show or at some tribute concert (gah, wish I could remember).

I wouldn't go so far as to call myself a fan, but damn if I don't appreciate her talent. I'm sure if I listened to more of her music, I'd probably really like her.

Oh one more thing, I just remember, I did watch her final on AI, it was against Bo Bice, who I was actually pulling for. I thought he totally kicked ass when he sang Vehicle and was disappointed that they gave it to a country gal. Where's Bo Bice today? pawning his gospel albums out of the backseat of his station wagon somewhere I think. :bonk:

There were a lot of fans who were upset by her choosing to pursue the country route after winning the season, but really can you imagine her doing anything else? That's her musical niche, her thing and it works well for her. She has done some good collaborating with artists of other genres from time to time but she has really made a huge name for herself in the country music realm already and I'd say that is quite an accomplishment no matter what people say. I think her singing that Heart tune really swayed peoples' opinions on the country thing too by the way.

There is a show this summer in Branson called Finalists Live and it features past idol singers including Bo Bice. Bo's first album sold 673,000 copie, his second 62,000 and his third album 11,000

I guess that's why Scotty McCreery is being so responsible and mature and making sure he finishes his education, it can be a short career, as music fans and trends are so fickle. I think his album just went platinum, but he's only 18, and knowing the music business he could still end up pricing up and labelling boxes of weed-killer in the back of a hardware store by the time he's 25 unless he gets himself a good education.

My Idol eviction prediction this week is DeAndre...though it's more hope than anything... I just can't take anymore of his underpants-15-sizes-too-tight ear-piercing screaming... or even Joshua if he fouls up with his song selection again like last week, singing a dreary 1970's Harry Nilsson ballad is never a great idea to my ears if you're a happenin' 18 years old black kid.

I'm hoping for Skylar to go soon. They're just something about her stupid little Reba scowl she does and stage hopping that drives me nuts. She's definitely not the most talented person on the show though she does have charisma and a decent stage presence.

Holly needs to turn up her enthusiasm and originality if she wants to stay. She's already shown she can turn out a good performance but she seems to be fading and hasn't been as memorable the past couple weeks.

I feel like I've seen performers like Joshua a million times before on this show. I'm hoping he'll go soon too.

Skylar's voice isn't bad at all, it's more that she wears her hillbilly credentials on her sleeve, and so we usually just get this grossly exaggerated Tammy Wynette drawl with her drawing out her vowels all the time, which I know a lot of the time is just put on by southerners for effect. OK if that's her background and influence, it's fine that she's sticking to what she knows and loves, but she sounds too one-dimensional for my own liking.

We definitely haven't seen a lot of range from her, which makes me think she's not really worthy of the top 3. She won't make it there anyway. Top 3 will most likely be Colton, Jessica and Phillip. Elise is a wild card at this point. I do think Deandre will at least be in the bottom 3 this week, if he doesn't go home. You seem to have a better ability to pick 'em than I do TS so I can see him making his exit soon.
