1) 'Rock & Roll Over' by Kiss: This was the album that started it all for me. I got it when I was 14 & the energy I felt from this album was unbelievable. The hardrock sound rushed through me & I wanted more so from this album I discovered Ted Nugent,Aerosmith,Alice Cooper,Blue Oyster Cult,Black Sabbath,Triumph,Angel,Starz,etc...

2) 'Some Girls' by the Rolling Stones: Back in '78 I had already discovered the Hard Rock/metal scene & a friend of mine brought up the Stones.I didn't know any of there songs so I bought 2 45's: "Satisfaction" & "Jumpin' Jack Flash" from the Oldies 45 section.I liked the songs & went out & bought 'Some Girls' as my first Stones album.I was blown away with the record & for some reason I'd listen to "Shattered" 5 or 6 times in a row per day.I was now hooked on the Stones & within a couple years I was up to 30 Stones albums & I noticed on the early albums that the Stones covered a lot of Blues & early r & r Artists so next thing you know I'm buying every Chuck Berry album I could find along with records by Bo Diddley,Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed, etc & from there I became a huge Blues fan all because of the Stones.

3) 'Too Much Too Soon' by the NY Dolls: Around '81 I had gone to See Pat Benatar in concert & opening the show was David Johansen. The week of the show a local radio station had played the title track from Johansen's 'Here Comes the Night' album which I thought was cool. The night of the show Benatar was good but Johansen as the opening act blew her away & even though I never heard it before I loved "Stranded in the Jungle" & had to find it the next day.It wasn't on the 3 Johansen albums at the record store & then I thought "wait! he was in the Dolls" so I found Too Much Too Soon" & there was no looking back.I thought on the cover guitarist Johnny Thunders looked cool as hell so I noticed his solo albums at a record store.I bought the double 'In Cold Blood' & I thought it sucked but there was something about it that made me try another album which was "Live at Max's" which I loved.I then became a huge fan of Thunders & now was heavilly into Punk

4) 'Alice Cooper' Show by Alice Cooper: I spotted this album right after I got into Kiss & gave it a try.I'd never heard "I'm 18" before & this version was great with the dueling guitars of Dick Wagner & Steve Hunter.I loved the whole theatrical feel of the album & I'd just stare at that cover & piece together in my mind what his show was like & I was now hooked & had to have everything Coop released. I really got into his Original Band & they now rivaled Kiss as my favorite band.I even did a 41 page term paper on Alice in my senior year & recieved a 93. I was at a friends house drinking in the early80's & started looking at his albums.I spotted Lou Reed's 'R & R Animal' & asked how it was.I'd always read his name but never heard him.Right from the start of "Sweet Jane" I noticed the familiar guitar dueling & looked at the album...Dick Wagner & Steve Hunter.

5) 'Bad Reputation' by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts: I was going to see Triumph who had just released 'Allied Forces' back in '81 & opening was a band called Diesel(they had a small hit called "Summer nights in Sausalito").
The day of the show a radio station announced Joan Jett was just added to the bill & they played a song from her new record called "Too Bad On Your Birthday".I actually knew the tune from Ram Jam's debut album so Jett's version hit home right away.I'll also never forget a photo from her Runaways days in Creem magazine of her & Cherie Currie eating Ice Cream Cones with a caption that read..."These Bitches Suck". I was psyched for her appearance but unfortunately the crowd was not ready for her NYC Punk attitude & booed her off the stage.I thought she was amazing & she covered my favorite Stones tune "Star Star". I went out & bought 'Bad Reputation' & I've became a total Jetthead since. I have seen her 12 times. Joan influenced me by paying attention to female rockers out there including Lita Ford,L7, the Donnas,Doro,Lee Aaron,The Charms,Dresden Dolls,Giant Drag,Juliette Lewis, etc...'Bad reputation' had 4 original tunes that were mixed in with 8 cover tunes & they were blended together very well.

Nice detailed list Bucky. Some Girls would be my favorite of the 5 you posted, and I have to thank Craig for convincing me to give that album another shot, when it was first released I didn't give it more than a passing thought, but now I really enjoy it.

1: Texas Flood- SRV

This is the album that got me into guitar, and SRV blew me away as he proved why he is the undisputed King of Texas Swing. All of his albums are as influential to me as this one but this was my first, as it was playing in my house since I was born.

2. Any Buckethead Album, (Colma, Crime Slunk Scene, Enter the Chicken)

Buckethead is without a doubt one of the best guitarists of all time. Everything he does is amazing and spewing will everything from country to metal to avant garde to jazz to blues to computer meltdown noises to southern twang to amazing shred to haunting ballads. If you want any advice on him, you can ask me and I'll direct you to some of his best works.

3. Pronounced: Lynyrd Skynyrd

Gimme Three Steps, Tuesday's Gone, Freebird, nuff said. Skynyrd is my favorite band of all time and this album was one of their first. Everyone knows Freebird, but hardcore fans know every song by heart and I'm one of them.

4. Final Fantasy Crisis Core Soundtrack:

A reminder that simpilcity is the best, this soundtrack is full of inspiring riffs and melodys. From the sad to the joyous to the hardcore rock to the softest of harmonies, this is a recent Influence and has helped me better my own music outlook.

5. Master of Puppets- Metallica

I was first a metalhead, and still am. Metallica's best Metallica sounding record as it pours Metal from its songs... gotta love Metallica.

Theres mine, I'll get some pics up later.

This thread is awesome I really love reading everyone's main influences & it's wild when I see some of the albums listed that they're just regular albums in my collection yet they really had quite an impact on someone else.

1) Eagles ~ Hotel California: This was the very first album I ever bought for myself. I was 16 when I bought this album and I didn't buy it for the popular songs, I bought it for B-side songs "Victim of Love" and "Try and Love Again". Victim of love is what got me started on the funkier side of music. Too bad there wasn't a "repeat" button on LP's back then, because I would have wore that track out.

2) Steppenwolf ~ Self Titled Debut and The Second: I was about 8 years old when these 2 albums came out. Since I had 3 older brothers who were teenagers then, they played these albums to death. Rock music was the only music I knew!! I thought you didn't know music unless you took a Magic Carpet Ride. :D

3) The Cars ~ The Cars: This album is one of my favorites. This album is what taught me what "stereo" sound is all about. Moving in Stereo still freaks me out to hear it played on a good sound system.

4) Outlaws ~ Outlaws: This album brings back some party memories and was the band that got me hooked on southern rock. I absolutely love grungy, dirty, funky, bluesy south syle rock!

5) Van Halen ~ Van Halen: This album is what got me started on some of the heavier side of rock, and also the prelude to my affection for glam metal. I dont care what anyone says, Eddie Van Halen had the hair and clothes of Glam so did David Lee Roth..............I saw them Live in the spring of 1979 and they absolutly sparkled and shined on the stage!

I agree! And I really enjoy reading how younger posters such as Buckethero, Magic and you yourself got into some of the same music I really like.

Yes! I was knocked out when I played the Cars LP I'd picked up at a used record shop on my new turntable. It sounded absolutely fabulous!

"Moving in Stereo" is also my favourite Cars tune. But it's not on the Cars Greatest Hits LP!

Though I prefer Sabbath with Ozzy...this is a fine example of a band overcoming the loss of it's original singer at it's best!

Why did the public accept this the way they did with open arms? Listen to the songs!!

This band is one of the FINEST examples of melody mixing with heavy and a dash of prog...EVER! IMO of course!

I love all their releases. This just happens to be my favorite.

Nice! You can post whatever you'd like MP but in my opinion the first choices someone comes up with are made for a reason. Trust me, as a music fan and ones who's brain is racked with excess of choices, I can relate to the difficulty of setting an amount and sticking with it. I read the reasons you listed and it explains some cool things about your music journey!
