Re: The Pretty Things

We supported The Pretty Things and Savoy Brown at the County Hotel in Taunton in the mid 60s. Savoy Brown were still a good blues band, very solid & no frills. What you saw was what you got! We had covered some of the early Pretty Things tracks in my first band, but by this time we were an 8 piece soul band & Otis, Sam & Dave et al were about as popular as piles with the crowd that were there. Ah well! The Pretties were on their journey to psychedelia with one of the first light shows we ever saw. The full story is in my book.

You forgot to leave the name of your book.

I bought Parachute after hearing The Good Mr Square on the Picnic sampler in the mid-seventies. I did not care much for the Silk Torpedo and Savage Eye albums released at that time (although I might like them now?) I heard another track on a Classic Rock magazine sampler, about twenty-five years later, called All Light Up which sounded pretty good.

I didn't care much for Silk Torpedo, Savage Eye either and Freeway Madness as well. What I remember (it's been along time) of those albums is a MOR/AOR hard rock/rock pop sound. I haven't listened to anything after Savage Eye. Savage Eye came with a poster of the album cover (the iris) and I actually framed it 25 years ago.

I tracked down All Light Up to a compilation CD called Latest Writs, Greatest Hits (2000), but I think it is virtually impossible to obtain.

Alot of compilations are impossible to find depending on how many the label pressed and where it was issued (country), though some are the same but come under different titles according to where (country) and/or the distribution of the album under different labels. Some artist's compilation discography is crazy and confusing.

That festival at Butlins is top draw, sadly cannot go to everything, Argent are on next year I understand, the only good point is that I have seen most of the bands that are on so not a bad thing, still would love to see them again and again:)
