BOOKS ABOUT KISS COMING OUT SOON
Brought To You By VH1’s Dave Basner

Kiss fans probably have CD shelves that are full and soon, their bookshelves will be too. That’s because a slew of books about the band will be out in the coming months. Bassist Gene Simmons and singer Paul Stanley are working on a tome called Nothin’ to Lose that describes the history of the group’s early years, from its inception in 1973 to the 1975 release of the classic concert flick, Alive!. That’s due out in 2012. Meanwhile, on November 1st of this year, former guitarist Ace Frehley will put out his autobiography, No Regrets and original drummer Peter Criss is also putting out a book next year. I'd like to read Ace and Peter's side of the story, I know it'll be no-holds-barred and that they will tell the truth (or at least their side) whereas Gene and Paul seem to make Kiss sound like a fairy tale and everyone got along until Peter and Ace suddenly became addicts, etc... For Gene and Paul (and everyone else besides Eric Carr who wasn't alive at the time)'s side I'll stick with the Kiss And Make-Up book.

Gene and Paul's book will paint them as martyrs and dismiss Ace and Peter's contributions to the band... I've seen enough interviews of them doing that no thanks. Ace and Peter's side of the story should be more interesting because unlike Gene and Paul, they aren't about trying to uphold this fairy tale facade about Kiss.

Yeah I agree, I'll get Ace & Peter's Books, but I'll most likely pass on the one Gene & Paul put out.

Does anyone else have the Behind The Mask book? Its a nice read for any KISS fan. Its three books in one. The first part is an unpublished "day in the life" story intended for release in 1980 telling the Kiss story up to the Dynasty tour with some really blunt interviews especially showing sides of Paul and Gene that they never have shown in latter years in interviews. The second chapter is basically commentary for all of the members (of course except Eric Carr for obvious reasons) and other people associated with the band about all sorts of different things in Kiss' career, and the last is an excellent track by track rundown of their discography though the 2001 box set with members and producers/outside songwriters adding their two cents about pretty much every song. A really nice book.
