GILLAN: NO NEW DEEP PURPLE MUSIC
Brought To You By VH1’s Dave Basner

It’s been six years since Deep Purple released their last album, Rapture of the Deep, and it seems like it will be a bit longer before the guys put anything else new out – if they ever do again. Here’s what singer Ian Gillan told us when we asked him if the band plans to work on new material.

“No, no, no, no, I don’t think so. We just don’t stop. We’ve got all the music we need. The only reason we ever made albums was to provide songs for the stage set and we’re just overflowing with stuff at the moment. It’s just fantastic. We played in 48 countries last year and it never seems to stop. It just gets bigger and bigger.”

If you want to check out the band live, you’ll have to book a plane ticket overseas. Their only remaining tour dates this year are in Europe. Learn more at DeepPurple.com.

I can believe that they have enough material that can be used at any time

It is so amazing that people never get bored of listening to these guys playing on stage only Gillan set. No more albums? Then I won't be looking forward to see them live.

This is how I feel about a LOT of classic rockers that have had careers spanning for 3+ decades. New music can be cool, sometimes it can be better than just "cool", but in all reality, I'd just as soon crank up the classics and see/hear them do the classics in concert.

Just my thoughts.. I know some would completely disagree with me.

You're not alone...alot of people feel that way. Myself, I'm into new stuff, but I can't say that I don't see what you're sayin'.

The older material takes me back to special times as well. :cheers2

I've not really followed any of the more recent Deep Purple albums so I guess I'm not too bummed about it but I'm not so sure Mr. Gillan should be saying never. ;)

I haven't followed their latter music, but I think its always sad when an artist ceases to make new music just because the nostalgia-heads going to their concert don't like post-1975 music. Artists shouldn't concede to being oldie touring acts just because radio won't play their new music, if the music is still in them, they should keep recording.

They should only keep recording if they have that burning desire to still make records, if there is less then 100% commitment to it then don't do it imo
Better that then have a really half assed album that came from a band of less then 100% heart and desire.
Don't care if I get flamed for that either.

Roger Glover said he would want to record a new album, Gillan previously said "maybe"...
I think whole band don't know what's going on about that.
