Re: The Official Mike Oldfield Thread

I do love Mike, he is a ripper of a musician, I have a number of his albums and have just started buying the remasters. I am waiting for " Crisis" to be remastered that is a lovely album or is it just me?

Great thread CREAM'd and about time:)

Thanks Sweaty. If you're buying the remasters of his albums, the Tubular Bells ''Delux'' version is a must have,it comes with a 5.1 remix that sounds excellent, also included is this video of Mike and a few other musicians performing for the BBC

I only have Tubular Bells and Ommadawn (my favourite of the two). I thought his music was starting to sound the same after that. Maybe, I should give him another listen.

You Should Snowblue,try the QE2 album:grinthumb

I was bombarded by MIKE OLDFIELDs Tubular bells,Hergest Ridge and Ommadawn from my elder sister.....so his music was drilled into me even if I liked it or not :uh:
Never got round to getting any of his albums...but I give him respect:grinthumb

:cheers2

Re: The Official Mike Oldfield Thread

Been meaning to post here for a while now. I know it's a bit of a given, but I love Tubular Bells! Everything from the sensational build ups, the instrument introductions, the dark eerie sections and the complete nonsense of the last few minutes, creates a massive suite and a fantastic album! :grinthumb

That's the exact same reasons as why I love Tubular Bells:grinthumb

Love Mike Oldfield
I bought Mike Oldfield-boxed back in 77-78. It contains Tubular Bells, Ommadawn and Hergest Ridge. All great albums and I love all the instrumentation. Incantations is another great album. Pierre Moerlen (Gong) plays on a bunch of his albums Ommadawn, Incantations, Crisis and a few others.

I like his last album too Music of the Spheres.

Love Pierre's marimbas

Love Pierre's marimbas over Mike Oldfield's guitar.

Love Mike's music , I think he should have been chosen to write a composition for the UK olympics .

If there is any justice in this world , Mike ought to be Knighted ! :tm:
