I will be listening to Coldplay for the first time this week, well Seriously listening to them would be more accurate. All you fans have got me curious about them, and after reading Sal's OP, should be interesting if nothing else.

If I were you I'd start with A Rush of Blood to the Head. Seems to be the big favorite among most Coldplay fans and will give you a good taste for their stuff.

I'm glad you're willing to give them a try, but I gotta be honest and say if you came out of it liking them I'd be very surprised.

Not to doubt you or anything, it's just Coldplay is one of those polarizing "love 'em or hate 'em " bands and don't sit very well with a lot of classic/hard rock fans from my experience.

I like quite a few newer bands, Muse, Blur, Radiohead so I'll give them a fair shake Jen.

Yes has a similar effect, people either Love them or Hate them, and of course I happen to love them.

I don't doubt you will LG, not for a second.

I think this song from X&Y has a little "heavier" of a sound. One of my favorites. If you listen to X&Y be prepared, it's a little different (to me) than a lot of their other stuff.



Also, I'd hold off on listening to their new single as their first singles released from each album are never usually as good as the album as a whole. I've learned this with this band. I think that's why some people are turned off by them. But they're working with Brian Eno again for this album, who worked on Viva la Vida, so you know it'll be a good one as long as they don't stick with that poppy dance vibe they have going on with the new single. I don't know, maybe it has to grow on me like Tray said.

Just finished listening to A Rush of Blood to the Head...a lot more mellow than I thought it would be..I guess I was almost expecting an "Oasis" kind of feel. But I can honestly say it was okay, I don't mind the vocalist at all.

I'll play it again of course, before moving to the next album.

Glad my OP helped inspire you to listen LG! Rush of Blood is more of an atmospheric album than the others, but I love it for that reason, and the amount of piano they add X&Y has more of a guitar rock feel if that's what you're after!

^^It does take me a while to get around to all the bands everyone has posted in here Sal, but yeah your OP was the final bit that motivated me to give Coldplay a listen. I love piano as well, whenever a band uses it as the lead or emphasizes it is fine with me.

I'll play X&Y tomorrow, after listening to Rush of Blood...again later today.
