I think file sharing sites that allow people to upload copywritten material are more responsible for ruining the music business than anything else. Why buy it when you can steal it. I think people that do it are petty thief scumbags, but that's my opinion.

yeah because I'm 16 and can afford to pay $1.29 for every song I listen to.
I didn't know "You are only allowed to listen to music if you are rich." is a rule now.

oh and my step dad just lost his job because the show he was working on was cancelled.

But thats okay, I don't deserve to have the privilege to be able to go for a walk and listen to music because I don't have a lot of money in the bank. I mean, all the guys on iTunes NEED my money. But no, I'm just a petty thief scumbag.

I see you are a couple yrs older than me, so I'm going to ask, did you ever own a turntable AND a cassette deck? IF so, did you ever tape any of your albums? Or how about making tapes of your friends' albums that you didn't own yourself? same worked with 8-tracks, however it was a terrible medium and didn't last as long as cassettes and wasn't anywhere near as portable (ie: Sony Walkmans and the like).

People have been 'sharing' music for decades. The medium has changed but the same basic concept is hardly new.

As for buying songs online, as a consumer I like the idea. Nothing worse than having to spend $15 on a CD that you only want 1 song on. I can't tell you how many albums, cassettes and CDs I have purchased over the years that I only wanted for 1 or 2 songs. I also can't tell you how many releases I did NOT buy because I didn't feel like paying that much for only 1 song.

And again, I do NOT buy anything from iTunes. I do not support them, but I also find the claim by Jon Bon to be ridiculous. Apple iPods (or any other mp3 player out there ) has not ruined the recording industry. Like EVERY industry out there has evolved over time, so has the recording industry. Like I said before, how they have reacted and adapted is where the biggest problem(s) lie.

I made mix tapes for myself on cassette, yes. With records that I bought. I do the same thing now on cdr's with cd's that I bought. The comparison of making a tape for a friend to uploading a copywritten cd for millions to steal is a poor comparison. I see what you are getting at and respect your opinion. The internet is so much more powerful at pirating music than a kid back in the day with a cassette deck. Stealing is stealing. Artists have a right to be paid for their art.

Thanks for justifying for all of us why you steal artists work. If it was meant for you to have it for free, the artists would put it out there for free. You and your way of thinking are a microcosm of why the music industry is in the state it's in. Enjoy your pirating matey.:violin:

Since when downloading music is called "piracy"? When I was young people were saying piracy was illegally selling material such as music and movies for sellers benefit only.

As far as I-tunes go, I guess some people like it. I still prefer to go to the store and get the music I want. MP3's are lossy and I don't want anything to do with them. There are lossless compression options out there that keep the quality of the music intact. There is something special to going out and getting your music at the store and I lived through that era. I remember cutting lawns so I could go get all the Kiss solo records at once or Kiss Alive II. No way downloading music would ever come close to that experience. I think Bon Jovi has it all wrong anyway. It's those pirating sites that are ruining the music biz. At least I-tunes is charging for the music.

Downloading a copywritten recording that is meant for sale is stealing. If you were meant to have it for free then why are they for sale at Best Buy, Wal Mart etc. for a price? Why does I-Tunes charge a price for downloading albums or individual songs? This mentality is a great example. It's so common that kids don't even know it's wrong. Classic!
