I have always enjoyed Paul McCartney's solo and Wings work. I know that a lot of people think it really pales against his Beatles work, but I think that's mostly a lyrical issue. Interestingly enough, I think he ended up having a pretty big influence, both lyrically and musically, on a lot of what followed in alternative music of the the 80s, 90s and beyond. His careless approach to lyrics and his sometimes rough and forever eclectic approach to studio production and instrumentation were prophetic of the work of such bands as REM and U2, along with their countless wannabes and imitators.
