Internet Hackers doing this type of thing are no different that vandals going out and breaking the windows in your car, keying the doors and slashing your tires. If you don't like a person, fine, don't like them. To vandalize their stuff is not only illegal, but it's morally just a shitty thing to do. If you think that someone deserves to be vandalized, then I hope that by all things right and wrong in this world, that it happens to you as well. Why? Wtf, why not? You deserve it!

I don't like a LOT of celebrities (music, movies, etc), I don't like most of the politicians in the world, I don't like reality TV, but I tell you what.... I don't truly wish ill will on any of those people, no matter how much they bother me, no matter how much they are full of shit (and themselves), no matter how fake they are and full of themselves they are. Dislike them all you like, but to wish harm to come to someone's property because I don't like them? Yeah, sorry. I'm not that ****ing childish.

Seems like you contradict yourself in your own post there Lynch.

To an extent, yes, but it's to make a point. If someone is juvenille enough to believe that someone should be vandalized simply because they don't like the person, then I'm all of the belief of what comes around, goes around. So if you think he deserves to have his property vandalized, then by all means, I guess I hope it happens to you as well.

Perhaps you should read the entire post instead of just select parts out of context. The entire 2nd paragraph says exactly how I feel, I don't wish shitty things to happen to anyone just because I don't like them. But if you wish shitty stuff to happen to others, then I hope karma bites you in the ass.

(I am speaking generically, not anyone specific, so don't take it that way).

Let's break this down. One I read what you said hence the contradiction being brought up. Two if you are for what comes around goes around then that would mean you would get what you deserve for wishing ill of someone else regardless of your reasons. Guess what? I have no sympathy for greedy ******. It would be one thing if they ****ed up his house and his cars, but shutting his trivial little website down for a few days because of his asinine comments is not even in the same ballpark. Also I am not wishing anything on him, but I say he deserves what ever comes at him for his ways. Karma is a bitch and Gene obviously has a lot coming his way.
Huge difference between wishing something bad and saying they deserve what ever happens to them.

Thread is open for business.

Who would have guessed Lynch and Mud were disagreeing about something again?...:D

I stand by what I said earlier, I do not hold with attacking anyone using the internet period, unless it's a debate forum with both parties willing to take whatever comments they hurl at each other.

There is a huge difference between Gene sitting at a table with other business/recording artists and voicing an opinion about how he feels about the state of the recording industry and what measures are needed to protect it, and disabling someone's website. The right he has to express himself in a public forum is the one that allows us to use the internet freely.

There are numerous cesspools out there, and I find that part of online activity disgusting myself. The same as "Flaming" a person, or in this case spreading a scandalous rumor about someone that might affect their family...that is unacceptable on any level. But there is no stopping kids that have grown up online playing these kind of games, to them it's funny or a joke on some level and builds up street cred with their "Homies" when they indulge themselves.

One example that I do not understand about the youth of today are how many of them approach the online gaming phenomenon. They will buy a "Powered up" or "Leveled up" character from a company/individual that does that for a living, they will use "Cheat Codes", and some will even use "Hardware cheats", equipment that is modified to give them an advantage over their rivals. So I would ask them this question,,,"What sense of accomplishment do you get from playing any game that you have cheated to win?. It was not your skill or tactics or strategy it was simply buying the cheats to achieve a hollow victory." I will not play online at all, I am happy with the few games I enjoy playing the AI, the only exception I would make was my racing simulator with a couple of friends who I know are honest and when we used to play it was fun and we knew whoever won came by it honestly not using a nefarious trick or cheat to do so.

I enjoy the good fun stuff on the internet, but as I said before if it came down to it I could unhook from it and return to the other things I enjoy doing that don't expose you to the infantile rampant stupidity that fouls what should be one of mankind's greatest inventions.

The reason they brought down his website wasn't because they disliked him (or that he was just an ass in general) but because of the things he said.

"Make sure your brand is protected," Simmons said during a panel discussion. "Make sure there are no incursions. Be litigious. Sue everybody. Take their homes, their cars."

I mean, who says that? He's already rich enough. What a jackass.

I can say one thing, this thread is an interesting read!

As far as hacking and vandalizing goes, our own governments are expert hackers! If you think you are safe on the net, think again. There is no such thing as anonymity on the net.......

What I find repulsive is the notion that Gene would approve of taking everything a person has over a nonviolent crime such as downloading, which to me is nothing more than petty theft. I would have much more sympathy for the RIAA if their tactics were above the board. Agents for the RIAA have been known to upload files then record the IP addresses and other information of the downloaders specifically to target them for prosecution. Is this not entrapment?

I have heard numerous rumors about 4chan but I have never visited 4chan. I will give them credit for one thing, taking on the "Big Guy". Reguardless of how "stupid" or "childish" one may feel the members of 4chan are, at least they are taking a stance against what is felt to be a WRONG. Vigilantes are sometimes what it takes to even up the scores :grinthumb

^^What is wrong with that TB? He is stating his opinion on something he knows a little about, and that is no reason or excuse for the immature kiddies to raid and take down his site.

No matter how you want to look at it, Gene did nothing wrong but say how he felt, he never actually attacked anyone personally, he didn't take down anyone's website, he didn't Sue anybody, at least that I know of, so if he cannot say in public what he feels about any subject then that is ridiculous.

I don't agree with him as I have said many times, but I do think he has the right to say whatever he wants about the state of the music industry without being cyber-attacked.

Gene can talk stupid sometimes and this is no exception I think some of his opinions are valid and some are not in regards to this issue. I also believe he doesn't watch what he says before he says it.

But I haven't seen him sue one downloader yet either. I thik he's just being hypothetical, or a "that would be great" sort of example.
