Re: The New Moody Blues Thread

I'll get to them one of these days Abraxas, but keeping in sequence I'll do the next album, 1968's "In Search Of The Lost Chord". The Moody's simplified things for this one, they didn't bring the orchestra with them for one thing, and ended up experimenting and playing with as many instruments as they could master when recording this one. You can also feel the "Psychedelic" aura on this record, seeing they were in the middle of the drug era of the late sixties no surprise there, all their contemporaries were doing the same thing. A very good album and an essential part of anyone's Moodies collection.

Re: The New Moody Blues Thread

I could'nt believe it when I found out that the band played all the instruments on The Lost Chord. It just shows how truelly talented these guys are. This happens to be one of my most fave albums by the Moodys. Plus it has their ultimate classic, imo, Legend Of A Mind! The album art is a perfect marriage to the songs and the second half of the album is just perfect. Too bad this classic lineup is no more. I'd love to see them get together again and record a new album.

It has to be one of the best covers of it's time for sure Abraxas, no one has to tell me it has artistic merit and tells a story...I can figure that out just perusing the painting.

That is a great song you picked out, my favorite album is coming up next.:D

I sometimes wondered what made Thomas write those lyrics: Timothy Leary's dead. :D

Threshold Of A Dream is one of my other fave Moody albums.

It should be an enjoyable show, Sox. I last saw them four years ago and they still sounded good. They are down to three original members (with session musicians) but Hayward's voice is still surviving!

Fingers crossed for the MOT!

I would have loved to have seen the Moodies in concert back in the day, but it's nice to know Hayward can still sing, that is the identifiable trademark of most bands and the voice is usually the first to suffer after years of touring.

I'll post the next album tomorrow morning, thanks for bumping this one Sox.:D

Cheers Snowblue that may just have helped sway my mind.

Unmistakable voice LG, and great musicians. The thing is they are gonna be playing virtually on my doorstep it would be a shame to miss the show. That's it I've got the box office blues.

Re: The New Moody Blues Thread

You are giving me another case of "Concert Envy", Sox...:D

Time for my personal favorite Moodies album. "On The Threshold Of A Dream", released in 1969 and this time because of the commercial success of the previous two albums Decca allowed them all the time they wanted to record this one. No pressure from constant touring so they used all the experiences they got touring the States with Cream and wrote all new material for the record, they had a few songs leftover from "Days...and Lost Chord..." but felt they weren't strong enough to record them. I like the "Rockin" feel that side one has on "Threshold..", that was definitely a by-product of playing with Cream to write tighter more up tempo songs that would play well in front of a live audience and they certainly succeeded in my book. Side two of the record was a little more like their early works, which I also like so it's the best of both worlds. The band was growing and yet still had what attracted me to them in the first place.
