Most Overrated Bands of the 1980's!

My comments were not directed at any one person ... It just seems that people on any forum like to debate on bands and all too often things hit a level where things get annoying to the other posters.

It is rare that I'd even read a debate between others unless the topic really hold an interest for me.

People (in general) are too sensitive about things that they like or don't like and many can't move on or let things drop after they've made their points.

People take things they like personally. Music/bands are a part of people so of course we will take a stand and back up the things we like. It's like if someone says they don't like the way you dress. The way you dress is a reflection of you and your tastes. Some people do go a little far with being offended but everyone will naturally be at least a bit offended when someone says they don't like something you like.

I love debates myself but only if the people involved have a good debate, not 'well, you're an idiot, go away' type of thing without presenting any good points.

There are other times when I just e-walk away from it, like last night in another forum, where some guy was saying old school metal bands like Judas Priest aren't even close to being metal. I know right there to just bite my tongue and refrain from e-tearing this guy to shreds.

It all just has to do with being offended by something that is personal to you. Some people are more passionate about what they like than others. I know I can be passionate about things at times and I don't mean to sound rude when I do it but I get a bit frustrated when people have an assumption about things and don't know the facts but are willing to throw poo over it just because they have little knowledge on whatever it is but still choose to say what they say.

that's the thing there are so many bands out there sooner or later you going to find common ground.

I agree LG I stay out of individual band threads of bands I don't like unless I have an interesting story or something about the band that might interest some.

I should probably stay out of these threads also but I can't resist.
plus some of the comments are too funny.

There are many bands we both like, and I agree it is fun to read the "passionate" responses in threads like this, I prefer to be positive as a rule but even I can't help myself sometimes.

I love reading what other people think is crap!! I really like some of the bands that some of you think are crap. Anyway, what does it matter - I don't care what people think of my taste in music

who knows WHAT appeals to each person ears ?

I like so many genres and styles I just say GENERALLY I like Classic Rock best

I grew up in the 80's and most of the music is memories of my youth..good or bad

and I like MOST of the bands trashed here lol.. least on song

No doubt about it, hands down, U2. Quite possibly THE most overrated band of all time, forget about just the 1980s. Their songs are, at best, acceptable as hold music on the phone, and "The Edge" has to be about the least interesting guitarist of all time.

Interesting list! You've certainly hit upon a lot of bands that are favourites on this board. I dislike both Yes and Clash myself and I can't say that any of the bands on your list with the possible exception of the Scorpions are among my personal favourites. I'm guessing your list is the product of a fellow born in the 1950's.
