Right behind you!
I don't know if I could even do a Top 10! I guess I'll try...

1. Bittersweet Symphony - The Verve
2. In My Time of Dying - Led Zeppelin
3. Babe I'm Gonna Leave You - Led Zeppelin
4. House of the Rising Sun - The Animals
5. Gimme Shelter - The Rolling Stones

GAH IT'S TOO HARD!!! I'm giving up here, I'll need more time to figure it out. These 5 might change by then too, this is just a "rough draft" if you will...
I reached a sudden and shocking conclusion today about what my top song of all time is. "Foolin' Yourself (The Angry Young Man)" by Styx would top my list, as it actually describes perfectly how I think and feel.
In fact, after having done some serious thinking, I believe I can name my top 20! I base this off of which songs evoke the most emotional response from me, be it a reminder of a summer that I had a lot of fun in, or a part of my life I feel the song spells out; whatever it is that made these songs stand out to me as I contemplate my life...

1. Foolin' Yourself (The Angry Young Man) - Styx
2. Bittersweet Symphony - The Verve
3. Hotel California - Eagles
4. Houses of the Holy - Led Zeppelin
5. House of the Rising Sun - The Animals
6. Gimme Shelter - The Rolling Stones
7. Brain Damage/Eclipse - Pink Floyd (they have to go together imo)

11. Roll With The Changes - REO Speedwagon
12. Behind Blue Eyes - The Who

17. Tiny Dancer - Elton John
18. Be My Lover - Alice Cooper

1. I like the songs in your list better than I like those in "Rolling Stone's" list.

2. "Satisfaction" should be in your top ten somewhere. It's too influential a tune to leave out entirely.

3. One of your Beatles' tracks should be replaced with a track of theirs that spearheaded the British Invasion in 1964. "I Want to Hold Your Hand" was far more influential a tune than almost anything they did in their later years.

Yeah I'd probably put Satisfaction or I Want To Hold Your Hand if I was doing a rolling stone type list (the BEST songs of all time) these are only my personal favorite./

Yes, interesting. "Favourite" would mean exactly that. "Greatest" should probably be synonymous with "most influential". "Top" though could mean either or some combination of the two.

Hmmmm my top twenty tracks. Let's give it a shot!
I tried to order them best I could:

20. Any Way You Want It - Journey
19. The Boys are Back in Town - Thin Lizzy
18. Time and a Word - Yes
17. Head Over Heels - Tears for Fears
16. Rocket Man - Elton John
15. Tom Sawyer - Rush
14. Philosophy - Ben Folds Five
13. We're Ready - Boston
12. Its a Lie - Fiction Plane
11. Time - Alan Parsons Project
10. Love, Reign o're Me - The Who
9. Queen/David Bowie - Under Pressure
8. Can't Get It Out of My Head - E.L.O.
7. Summer, Highland Falls - Billy Joel
6. Across the Universe - The Beatles
5. Us and Them - Pink Floyd
4. Every Little Thing She Does is Magic - The Police
3. Land of Confusion - Genesis
2. Out the Blue - John Lennon
And finally number one, I've sang this song with my friends and family, by myself, and listened to it so many times over the years:
1. Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody

This took forever, and I feel this is the best list I could have come up with, all with some sort of emotional attachment and evoking of feeling, and long standing within my playlists and compilations. This is the only way I could have narrowed it down. Unfortunately, no women artists made the top twenty, a few were close though. Sorry ladies!!
