1. Mad Dogs and Englishmen- Joe Cocker- A very heavily underrated live album that truly captures that energy and power that made Joe such an exciting singer in his younger days.

2. Live At Benaroya Hall With The Seattle Symphony- Brandi Carlile- The single greatest live album to come out in a very very long time.

3. Tribute- Ozzy Osbourne- This was Randy at his very best. If "Tonight" and "Diary of a Madman" had made it onto this album then there is a good chance it would have been #1 on my list. It was a close race.

4. It's Alive!- The Ramones- My favorite Ramones album and it is nothing but raw energy for an hour.

5. Made In Japan- Deep Purple- The difference between "greatest" and "favorite" is very important here because I think this is the greatest live album of all time but I have to be in the right mood for it. This is jamming and structure at it's finest and most important of all, there are no overdubs and it STILL sounds this good.

6. The Last Live- X Japan- Never have I every heard a band's entire career summed up like it is in this epic, 3 hour album. The one drawback that keeps it from being higher on my list is that there are MULTIPLE full 8 minute long sections of just the crowd cheering, especially towards the end of the album. This is more authentic to the concert I suppose but it really breaks up the listening experience.

7. 17-11-70- Elton John - Both this song and Elton's "Live in Australia" album could have made this list for me but I like to keep it to one entry per artist for my lists so I had to make a tough choice. Ultimately I prefer the minimalistic charm of "17-11-70" over the orchestrated style of the latter album.

8. Rock and Roll Animal- Lou Reed- Early 70's Lou Reed is my favorite era from his career and it was captured fabulously on this album. The other half of the concert this album was recorded at was released as "Lou Reed Live" and if they were released as a double live album then it would have been much high on my list.....but I digress.

9. Ben Folds Live- Ben Folds- There is something really magical about just Ben Folds playing piano by himself. Maybe it's that you can appreciate the ingenuity and resourcefulness of it because he plays the parts of instruments that aren't there. Maybe it's that you can hear just how good of a pianist he really is. Maybe it's just charismatic. I don't know but all I know is that it's really great.

10. The Concert in Central Park- Simon & Garfunkel- Years after their breakup, Paul and Art came together for a cause and it attracted one of the largest crowds to any concert in history. It was captured beautifully on this album.

Off the top of my head and the order may shift about a bit.

Deep Purple - Made In Japan
Rory Gallagher - Live In Europe
Thin Lizzy - Live And Dangerous
Ted Nugent - Double Live Gonzo
The Who - Live At Leeds
Judas Priest - Unleashed In The East
Fleetwood Mac - Live In Boston Vol I (Boston Tea Party 1970)
Led Zeppelin - How The West Was Won
Allman Brothers Band - At Fillmore East
Rolling Stones - Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out

Must say "If You Want Blood", "Bursting Out", "All The World's A Stage" and "Exit Stage Left" could easily slip in there.

Killer albums. I would have included Little Feat in my list if I'd remembered it :grinthumb
