I love music and it is a massive hobby of mine.I am always surfing the net and visiting sites like rate your music and the metal archives.I also enjoy looking at hifi mags etc.

I joined MA, when they first started as an offshoot of PA. My first post was to suggest they should include Robin Trower. They told me he did not belong, so I left immediately. I went back recently and noticed Trower was included! :heheh:

^Encyclopaedia Metallum: The Metal Archives^this is the one-I glance through it for reviews but mainly use rate your music or just search for the artist here to obtain opinions.
Thanks for the Nektar recommendations:D

Of all the Metal specialist music boards Encyclopedia Metallum is the only one I bother looking at when I'm curious about a particular band. I like the layout and the feel of the place is civilized compared to almost every other one I've looked at.

@2LITTLETIME, LG & Phantasmagoria... Thanks guys.

At this record place in Pasadena I go to they always have something on vinyl playing. Even with simple equipment, the sonics...it really projects.

I've stopped reading reviews over the years. When I was younger, I couldn't tell you just how many bands I passed on due to someone giving the band a terrible review. Too many people have a social agenda when it comes to music. I'd rather form an opinion on my own.

I read quite a lot of reviews, but I don't always agree with them. A review can be well written, despite being wrong.

Critics tend towards hyperbole many times, after all they make their living offering their opinions about the subject at hand so they have to entertain as well as offer a thought or two. Some I grew to respect over the years, but I never really let what they said deter me from buying and enjoying a new album.

If a critic has been around long enough and you have read their columns for years you can almost guess what they are going to say when reviewing an artist.

What I don't like are "corporate" custom fit reviews, in which money changes hands to promote a particular artist or brand.

I don't take many reviews on Metal Archives seriously. Most of them are extremely biased.
