@RiffRaff: Nice sized collection! It's great that there are young folk out there who still prefer collecting actual physical media these days.

I agree...it's always a good idea to check stuff out before you buy it, ...& YouTube is where I go to for that :D
There's almost always the whole album (or at least a couple of tracks) up, usually even before an album is officially released...

As for Slayer, I have'nt bought anything by them since "Divine Intervention"...not into their more recent stuff at all.

@LG: Wow! 7000 LP's ...that's pretty crazy! (I own 3 vinyl's & don't have a turntable lol).

That's one thing I regret, Vinyl sounds so massive ...but it's just too expensive to collect here, especially since you can't walk into a store and buy anything (well, not much). And when it comes to ordering off the internet, shipping prices for CD's are bad enough already...

^^I should explain I meant 7,000 in total Phantasmagoria, most of those are CD's, and most of them are packed away right now.

I only have about 300 vinyl albums, my old vinyl collection was lost in a fire 15 years ago so between what I've bought the last two years and what I inherited from my Mom and little brother it's about 300.

Sorry for the confusion, my fault.:peek

^^Nobody was hurt, and I'm over it now at the time I was upset, most of the albums are irreplaceable now the specialty labels are all gone except MFSL and they have a very limited catalog compared to the glory days.

Your collection is first class, I'll bet you have the same problem as I do, sometimes it takes a while to Choose what CD/album you want to play.:heheh:

1-How big is it(cds, vinyl, downloads etc)(Include display pics etc if you want.)

A little over 300 vinyl and just over 1000 CD's

2-Is there stuff you have not played(how much)

No I've played it all over the years.

3-Do you buy your music or do you take the odd frebbie download from blogs.

I buy but will use a rip as a sample then if I like it I buy a copy.

4-How much per month do you think you spend

It depends on how much I'm earning but there's not many weeks go by when I don't pick something up.

5-Is your collection out of control and growing like a monster?

Space is an issue but no I don't think it's too bad.

6-How many chances do you give a purchase(eg 3 goes)

I am a bit choosey as to what I buy and so have usually heard the album or seen a review before hand but those that are iffy will get at least 3 plays and over time some that I didn't like at first grow on me.

7-Do you have stuff that you do not like(eg part of a bands discography)

There are weaker albums and songs even with my all time favourite bands but on the whole I am ok with what I have.

8-Do you sell off parts of your collection from time to time.

Not as yet.

9-Please feel free to say anything else

I've been plodding along slowly collecting since I was about 10 years old and have never looked back, getting into music was definitely one of my better decisions in life.

Once you hit about 1,000 CD's/Vinyl albums it becomes difficult to actually listen to them all. Even when I had a carousel CD player it was still time consuming to pick which CD I wanted to play.

Physical storage is another problem even CD's take up a lot of room...but for me I'll put up with that rather than just load a dozen i-pods with crappy lossy files. Also I won't have to repurchase them from i-tunes if something happens, they are insured as well so I'm covered.

Question will become moot in a couple years, there won't be any CD's to buy as everyone goes to digital downloads.

People are probably tired of me extolling the virtues of vinyl over CD's let alone Lossy formats. But for 60's-80's rock and roll there is no comparison the Vinyl "lives and breathes", digital is sterile in many ways by comparison.

The only hope I see is if enough folks keep buying vinyl then specialty labels might keep pressing them, even new artists not just reprinting old classics.
