That's a glorious collection Phantasmagoria, and it's nice to know you are "fastidious" about keeping them clean and in order too.:grinthumb

My vinyl collection is just under 2000, about 20% from the 60s and 80% from the 70s. The early to mid 60s are in average condition but the late 60s through the 70s are mostly in new or near new condition and all have protective plastic sleeves.
Since I bought a lot of albums in a short time there are quite a few that have been played once or twice only and I have a few that have not been played at all. These were purchased because I liked the band and was trying to get their entire catalog.
I have about 100 CDs that I bought new. about 150 CDs that were burned from a friend's CD collection and 235 CDs that I burned from LPs.
I never download from the internet.
I have some albums that I don't like probably because at the time I was trying out a new band or they were freebie promos that I got while working at a record store in the 70s.
My LP collection is not growing at all since I have not bought an album in years and I have never sold or traded any albums.
There are a few pictures of my collection on my user page.

It's The Motherload!

Thanks Lighthorse! :cheers2 It's my pride and joy :D
That is just insane [meant in a good way BTW]! Some people drink. Some people smoke. Some people spend it on self-harming pursuits. Some it's the opposite sex [very expensive...] Our collective addiction here is music which is a hell of a lot better with the possible exception of the last one [luck involved].

Looking forward to seeing pics of the collections of the "heavies" here. You know who you are! :cheers2

Think I've got about 350 vinyls. About 400 cd's. If i have some money left I rather buy a vinyl than a cd. Just love to play vinyls. It's very sad that vinyl shops are dissapearing. We do have a great vinyl shop in Den Haag. The owner is great. Whenever we come he let us listen loads of old and new ones. I'd love to see the shop Elpat is working in.

1-How big is it(cds, vinyl, downloads etc)(Include display pics etc if you want.)
I used to have a pretty big Cassette collection (3000+), but did'nt take much care of it, lent most of it out (most were'nt returned lol) etc, & now I'm left with maybe 10% of what I had, if that.

Anyway, I did learn my lessons from that & my CD collection at the moment numbers about 5000 (+)

Pics (sorry but these are pasted here from another forum & I have'nt resized them..they're also about a year old):

2-Is there stuff you have not played(how much)
No.

3-Do you buy your music or do you take the odd frebbie download from blogs.
No freebies! I want the real thing!

4-How much per month do you think you spend
Between $150-250 on average

5-Is your collection out of control and growing like a monster
Unfortunately (or fortunately...), yes it is! It's spread out all over the place and I now have a large part lying in boxes for lack of rack space.

6-How many chances do you give a purchase(eg 3 goes)
I keep them all most of the time. There have been instances when I really did'nt like something, came back to it years later & loved it!

7-Do you have stuff that you do not like(eg part of a bands discography)
Yeah..but not much.

8-Do you sell off parts of your collection from time to time.
Yes, but very occasionally

9-Please feel free to say anything else.
I'm pretty anal about it...replace scratched/broken covers, arrange re-arrange, dust (& even plastic polish..). It's kind of obsessive haha.

That is fantastic, In love the racking, I also have boxes of stuff under the bed as there is no more space on the racks, I will soon have more space when the oldest lad leaves home and I can the shelving in his old room.

I would spend a lot more time putting mine into order if I could, I do replace broken cases and dust them too.

Thanks for the compliments/kind words guys! :cheers2

Yeah, I guess it's an addiction, but as you pointed out gcczep, there are far worse ones out there..lol. I'm also lucky I have a pretty awesome wife who does'nt give me hell for it

I am very fussy, and they do get a fair bit of "maintenance" ..but they also see a lot of use. It's a shame that so many need to be piled up in boxes for lack of space, though I do take those out and spin them every now & then too..:grinthumb

Do you mind if i ask you guys a number of questions about your collection.
Please feel free not to answer and just comment as you wish.

1. I have 889 CDs. I will edit a photo to the end of the post when I get a chance to.
2. Maybe one or two albums.
3. I always buy my music if I like it.
4. Couple of hundred a month on music probably.
5. Probably, I don't care as I like the bands I buy albums for.
6. At least 2-3 chances. Depends if it was a grower or I loved it right away.
7. Several albums. Its the unfortunate risk of buying albums. I was stupid enough to not have heard material prior.
8. Have not yet but have some shitty Slayer albums I would like to get rid of. I would more likely give them away.
9. Music collecting is fun. That is all I need to add. I only tolerate physical copies when it comes to buying music.

1-How big is it(cds, vinyl, downloads etc)(Include display pics etc if you want.)

Haven't counted it recently, been consumed with cleaning up old vinyl and sorting that part of the collection out. Around 7,000 albums at a rough guess.

2-Is there stuff you have not played(how much)

Maybe 60 vinyl records, I am going through them now.

3-Do you buy your music or do you take the odd frebbie download from blogs.

Spent untold amounts of money over the years on music and have also downloaded freebies.(Mostly vinyl rips at Hi-Res of OOP recordings.)

4-How much per month do you think you spend

Impossible to guess at this point, but the last 3 months I've spent over $1000 on vinyl records.

5-Is your collection out of control and growing like a monster

No I am almost finished, just a couple more records I want to add to the hoard...and there are one or two bands who's new CD's I'll pick up when they come out in 2013.

6-How many chances do you give a purchase(eg 3 goes)

At least 3 listens, over a few weeks unless it's absolute rubbish, like Meshugga's Obzen, listened to it once, forced myself to do it again then put it on the shelf forever.

7-Do you have stuff that you do not like(eg part of a bands discography)

Rarely, if I like a band I'm usually all in, of course that doesn't mean I don't have favorites that I play more than others.

8-Do you sell off parts of your collection from time to time.

I've given away lots of music over the years, but right now I'm going to trade in a bunch of albums and CD's I no longer want.

9-Please feel free to say anything else.:grinthumb

Not much to add, except I've been a collector since the early 70's and love collecting stereo equipment almost as much as the music itself.
