Wow, I knew she was still having her troubles but I am still shocked. I was passing through Yahoo! front page on my way to a weekly chat around 8:30 and that stopped me cold. She and I are just about a year apart in age so that gets me too. Whitney had a great voice and will be missed. R.I.P. ... :(

:uh: Regardless of how she went out a legacy is cemented once it's there and there's no taking that away. Most talented artist always do have that tragic flaw as history shows. Far from her only great song I'm still amazed by how she took a simple song from Dolly and blew it out of the stratosphere. Definitely took what it meant to cover a song and make it yours. Like Aretha she was such a commanding seemingly flawless presence that we let her take the title of diva without any regrets. Unlike Mariah who was compared earlier, she didn't dumb down her pipes to fit into a more urban less soulful market. Not until her most recent work when years of drug use came into play did she ever have to hold back. I seriously have to wonder how Bobby Brown outlived her and she had to go so early just because of a wrong turn and bad influences. Remember before everything went downhill how she carried herself with a class and poise that many miss the point on today. I'd say the closest in classy vocals, great range and pipes and class would be Leona Lewis.

I'm sure there will be many songs so here's a different song that's relevant to the occasion especially since we have nothing left to hear from her now and the best way to hear Whitney, Live!!!!!

She'd been in trouble for years. Need to await the official reports, but it reminds me of Michael Jackson's death in the sense that you can't shake the feeling that someone could have stopped it/ helped her!

Also that like Whitney, Micheal didn't die in his prime which lead to less respect outside the diehard loyals than he should've gotten for his demise.

Nothing much I can add to all these tributes, it's one of those mornings where you wake up, turn on the news, and you have to double check because you're sure the news announcer just said something that you can't quite believe.

Everybody loved her voice, for some years it was THE voice in music, an incredible range and quality which no other singer had. She was such a beautiful person, I was actually lucky enough to see her perform once at Wolf Trap National Park, Virginia, which has an outdoor arena, it was a magical hot midsummer evening, and she sang all her amazing hits under the stars.

I'm sure the Grammys will stage a great tribute to the exquisite Whitney tonight in LA, which is held at the Staples Centre and only a mile or two from where she died, she had many many Grammy nominations and awards in her career.

God bless her very greatly.

wow, so I just found out about it. Sad, sad, sad....only 48. She was an incredible singer and even though I was never a fan, I knew she was gifted. I can't really say I saw it coming because other than the occasional glance at a People Magazine cover standing in line at the grocery store, I really didnt follow her career in tha last 5 or 6 or whatever years so I didnt know what her recent life was like. Still sad, though.
