I am definitely old school, I will play a new album from beginning to end without skipping any songs at least once. Before I will offer any recommendation to anyone I will have listened to the complete work at least 4-6 times to make sure I'm comfortable with my own opinion.

To skip or rush through an album without giving it Time to sink in is just not feasible to me. I shudder to think how many "growers" I've discovered over the near 40 years I've been listening/collecting music if I rushed through without really listening.

It really depends on the format for me. If it's vinyl or cassette then I'll play it from beginning to end. If it's a CD the first thing I do is upload it onto iTunes. And I always have iTunes on shuffle so the album gets shuffled as well.

^^I simply cannot fathom that approach, I never use shuffle on my CD/DVD players or my Sansa.:nw:

So many records I bought growing up were "Concept albums" to play them out of sequence would be a travesty and ruin Everything the artists were trying to achieve.

Even now a great deal of planning/strategy goes into the order of tracks on an album. It's not an accident by any means.

I miss the old analog days where patience was rewarded, the new era has taken away a lot of the fun of "discovery" in my view.(I don't blame anyone, just find it sad that we don't have as much patience now as when I was a teenager.)

I play a new album from start to finish a few times before I start skipping over certain songs.

Been skipping over quite a few on the new Kiss cd's I bought recently.

I never buy albums in digital format. It's a waste of my hard earned money. So when I buy a "new" album, it's vinyl. I rarely ever manually move the needle over unless there's a song that is just so bland that I don't give enough of a shit for the time being to listen to it. However, I usually listen to the entire thing, sometimes repeating a certain side if I hear something I kind of dig, to see if I can really start digging it. I have to get really friendly with an album before I consider it "listened to". :D

I don't remember the names off hand. I bought Destroyer, Rock And Roll Over and Love gun. Don't get me wrong, there are some good tunes, but a lot of it seems very simplistic and boring to me.

I try to take time to listen to the album without any distractions, and that usually means either late at night with headphones on and lights dimmed, or preferably on a road trip home late at night. So much easier to really listen that way.

It depends on so many variables. A well sequenced album will catch me with a big song right at the beginning. A lot of times I'll look for the biggest, most epic or powerful song on the album or others things that grab me like the acoustic standout, piano ballads or epic closer. This is through a quick preview. After being hooked all the more subtle parts of the album I'll ease into and oftentimes I'll end up loving the whole album. With proven favorite artist there's no skipping. I know I love their sound and vibe so I'll listen to the album from beginning to end. Some albums though are sleepers that I'll give a once over and when I try it at a later time it just hits me. Some REALLY hit me. Music is so emotional sometimes it's all about timing for you to "get" it. Anyway, it's always different and that's part of the experimentation and adventure of it. I never write off an album unless I really try it enough times and don't feel a thing. :D
