How do you listen to it?

I was thinking about this earlier today, because I realized that I do certain things when I get a new album from either an artist that I like, or an artist that i'm trying to get into. I'll go through the album song by song, but I don't listen to it fully, i'll skip over songs that I don't think sound good at first, and completely ignore them. After that, i'll find songs that I like, and I eventually start to introduce the band to other people with those songs. Than i'll go back and listen to the whole album, with every song, and find some way to like the songs that I didn't like at first.

What do you do?

totally depends on what it is. If it's an old album that I already know or something knew that I only know a couple of songs on.

Lately I've been shuffling the new albums I get. I do this because some artists like to group together their singles and if I play it through I won't want to listen to anything else after that. If I shuffle it, I can play the lesser known songs in between and not want to quit halfway through. I don't know if that made any sense or not.

@Lynch: I would say, something new that you only knew a few songs on or no songs on.

@ILJP: That does make sense, and is probably what I would do if I weren't too lazy.

If I didn't know ANY songs on it, I guess I'd just start at the beginning and let it play. Either that, or I'd play about a minute or so of each song, then skip to the next, finding what grabbed me right from the start of a song. After getting through the full rotation, then I'd probably go back to the ones that grabbed my attention to play start to finish.

Even if its an album I am familiar with for a few songs I will play right through it, giving each song on the album a chance.
Sometimes though I do listen to every song just not in order.

Kind of depends...

I have dozens of unlistened to albums.
I tend to binge on music and can go for hours
enjoying new (to me) tunes.

CD's get play time in the car first run.

Emusic and Limewire files get loaded onto digital players
to make work more tolerable.
