My bid is for the most overrated classic rock song is Kashmir by Led Zeppelin. I thought it was droning and monotonous in the 70s and I still do. It's mainly a simple ascending riff that goes "duh duh duh- duh duh duh- duh duh duh- (repeat riff only on higher notes) duh duh duh- duh duh duh.... for 9 minutes

You're doing an excellent job at destroying this song. Now I feel bad for still liking it.

#Free Bird
I'm surprised how many people feel this way. It has one of the most memorable tunes in all of rock history. Granted, it should have been 3 minutes shorter as the second half just drags on without contributing anything to the song besides messy noise.

#Another Brick in the Wall
Now that is exactly the kind of utterly overrated classical rock/pop song. It tries so hard to be an anthem. The lyrics are full of pathos and the melody follows suit.

#Born to Run
Wasn't even that much of a commercial success, but it surely does qualify as a classic because of later critical success (like being ranked 21 in Rolling Stone Magazines top 500).
To be honest, I don't get it one bit. I've listened to 6 Springsteen albums so far and this song doesn't stand out one bit. It's a typical Springsteen song, good but not spectacular. Easy to get into and quite enjoyable. Classic rock song? No way!

#Two Princes (Spin Doctors)
Great tune, but it's not even enough to carry the entire one-hit wonder. The song offers enough content for 1:30 minutes of greatness. They didn't even have the quality song writing to fill a whole song. It's just a 4:16 minute loop of a single great idea. That's what I call an overrated song!

#We will rock you
Similar problem, just more epic than the one above. The disappointing thing is that Queen actually had great songwriters who should have done better.

See...I would say that it's in the top 5 songs he ever wrote. One of the most passionate songs, full of energy, a song that really takes you somewhere.

Then again, I like most all of his stuff.

Overrated doesn't even necessarily mean you dislike a song it just means you don't think its as great as its cracked up to be.

Kashmir has always sounded to me aloof, robotic and very, very boring. By 1975 Plants voice was pretty much shot too, so the vocal delivery is full of whiny and cracked notes. The middle section is a welcome relief and a good performance from Bonham, but he can't save the song...

I just had this same experience the other day. The song came on the radio and since I hadn't heard it in awhile, I gave it a listen.

Ugh...that endlessly repeating riff is just so annoying to listen to these days. It took me about 30 seconds before I changed the station. Still love Zepp but that song is one I don't need to hear anymore.
