1949 Tommy Ramone (drummer for Ramones) is born Tamas Erdelyi in Budapest, Hungary, but is raised in Queens, New York.

1953 Louie Perez (drummer, lyricist for Los Lobos) is born in Los Angeles, California.

1961 Eddie Jackson (bassist for Queensryche) is born in Robstown, Texas.

2013 Kenneth Hodges (bass guitarist for Spanky & Our Gang) dies of pneumonia at age 76.

1961, The Shirelles became the first girl group to have the number one song on the US chart when 'Will You Love Me Tomorrow?' reached the top. The song peaked at No.4 in the UK.

1969, The Beatles with Billy Preston, played their lunchtime rooftop gig on top of the Apple building on Savile Row, London. Lasting for just over 40 minutes it was the last time The Beatles performed live. The played ‘Get Back’, ‘Don’t Let Me Down’, ‘I’ve Got A Feeling’, ‘The One After 909’ and ‘Dig A Pony’. Traffic was brought to a standstill as crowds of people gathered below and watched from windows in nearby buildings. John Lennon ended the performance by saying “I’d like to say ‘Thank you’ on behalf of the group and ourselves and I hope we passed the audition.”

1973, After recently changing their name from Wicked Lester, Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss made their first appearance as KISS at the Popcorn Club in Queens, New York.

2016, David Bowie left an estate valued at about $100m (£70m), according to his will which was filed in New York. Half would go to his widow, Iman, along with the home they shared in New York. The rest was shared between his son and daughter. Bowie's personal assistant, Corinne Schwab, was left $2m and another $1m went to a former nanny, Marion Skene.

1947 Steve Marriott (frontman of The Small Faces, Humble Pie) is born in Manor Park, London, England.

1951 Marv Ross (guitarist for Quarterflash) is born in Oregon.

1951 Phil Collins is born in Chiswick, London, England. Before embarking on a solo career in 1980, he is the drummer and lead singer for Genesis.

2009 Dewy Martin, drummer and backing vocalist for Buffalo Springfield on their 1967 hit "For What It's Worth", died from hardening of the arteries at the age of 68.

2017 John Wetton, who played bass guitar in King Crimson, Uriah Heep and Roxy Music before fronting supergroup Asia, died at the age of 67 after a battle with colon cancer.

1978, Greg Herbert saxophone player with Blood Sweat & Tears died of an accidental drug overdose in Amsterdam, Holland aged 30. Blood, Sweat & Tears won a Grammy Award in 1969 for Album of the Year.

1959: Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens & the Big Bopper played at The Armory in Duluth, MN. Seventeen year old Robert Zimmerman was in attendance & became inspired to become a musician after attending this concert. He’s better known today as Bob Dylan.

1998: Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, & Southside Johnny performed at the Come Together benefit concert to benefit the family of Sgt. Patrick King, a police officer killed in the line of duty. This concert also turned into an impromptu E Street Band reunion.
