are a severely underrated group. Now granted I may be influenced by my best friend who's waved there flag for them as much as I've waved the Smashing Pumpkin flag since we've shared music anecdotes as far back as high school. Picture that folks! :heheh: So yeah, I have some schooling on 3EB and you know what, they deserve it. I saw them live back a couple years ago and I saw an audience connected to a whole catalog of songs, word for word and enthusiastic as any audience I've ever seen. At this moderate sized venue I saw a band that had all the limelight it needed regardless of current status as their audience hooted, hollared and stomped their way until they got three encores. So even without my avid fan of a friend I saw this band play an awesome show live and it was an experience I won't forget.

So why does this band still capture the same spirit now as it did with the same fanbase when the debut came out in 1997.

I believe it's because they are a band that has the balls to play some of the sweetest, confectionery pop rock hooks in existence while mixing a little punk rock mentality with dark subject matter in their lyrics that radio would run from if it wasn't to good to pass up.

I know it's been said before, but how often does yop 40 radio have a pop song about doing Crystal Meth and red panties!

Semi Charmed Life
(still stays in your head to this day!)

Off of this debut also had a great single that dealt with suicide! Now this song has seen some satire in recent years but it's still a great song with great lyrics! :grinthumb

Jumper

Other fan classics off the debut were:

Motorcycle Drive By

Summer time and the wind is blowing outside
In lower Chelsea and I don't know
What I'm doing in this city
The sun is always in my eyes
It crashes through the windows
And I'm sleeping on the couch
When I came to visit you
That's when I knew I could never have you
I knew that before you did
Still I'm the one who's stupid
And there's this burning
Like there's always been
I never been so alone
And I've never been so alive
Visions of you on a motorcycle drive by
The cigarette ash flies in your eyes
And you don't mind, you smile
And say the world doesn't fit with you
I don't believe you, you're so serene
Careening through the universe
Your axis on a tilt, you're guiltless and free
I hope you take a piece of me with you
And there's things I'd like to do
That you don't believe in
I would like to build something
But you never see it happen
And there's this burning
Like there's always been
I've never been so alone
And I've, I've never been so alive
And there's this burning
There is this burning
Where's the soul I want to know
New York City is evil
The surface is everything but I could never do that
Someone would see through that
And this is our last time
We'll be friends again
I'll get over you, you'll wonder who I am
And there's this burning
Just like there's always been
I've never been so alone alone
And I've, and I've never been so alive
So alive
I go home to the coast
It starts to rain I paddle out on the water
Alone
Taste the salt and taste the pain
I'm not thinking of you again
Summer dies and swells rise
The sun goes down in my eyes
See this rolling wave
Darkly coming to take me
Home
And I've never been so alone
And I've never been so alive

God of Wine

Every thought that I repent,
There's another chip you haven't spent.
And you're cashing them all in.
Where do we begin, to get clean again.
Can we get clean again.

I walk home alone with you, in the mood you're born into.
Sometimes you let me in, and I take it on the chin.
I can't get clean again. I wannna know, can we get clean again,
The God of Wine comes crashing through the headlights of a car that
Took you farther than you thought you'd ever want to go.
We can't get back again.
You can't get back again.
She takes a drink and then she waits,
The alcohol it permeates.
And soon the cells give way, and cancels out the day.

I can't keep it all together.
(It's the wound, stuck underneath the moon.)
I know
I know
I know
I know
I know
I know
I know
I can't keep it all together.
(It's the wound, stuck underneath the moon.)
And the siren's song that is your madness,
Holds a truth I can't erase, All alone on your face.

Every glamorous sunrise, throws the planets out of line.
A star sign out of whack, a fraudulent zodiac.
And the God of Wine is crouched down in my room. You let me down, I said it.
Now I'm going down, and you're not even around.
And I said a no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no

I can't keep it all together.
(It's the wound, stuck underneath the moon.)
I know
I know
I know
I know
I know
I know
I know
I can't keep it all together,
(It's the wound, stuck underneath the moon.)
And there's a memory of a window, looking through I see you.
Searching for something I could never give you.
There's someone who understands you more than I do.
A sadness I can't erase, all alone on your face.

Re: The Official "Third Eye Blind" Thread

The following album

Blue
Third_Eye_Blind_-_Blue_-_front.jpg

is where my knowledge drops off since, besides the Greatest Hits, it's the last one I bought. Regardless, though it's a great album and contains the genesis for my favorite Third Eye Blind track ever. I'll get to that in a bit! :D

Anyways, this single is one that I've even seen metal fans get into to! It is a hard rocking pop song!

Anything

Wounded
(so many perfectly strung together pop elements here)

Another cool written song that deals with the scare of unexpected fatherhood!

Ten Days Late

The real meat of this thread for me is the following. It turns out Third Eye Blind was even too much for it's record company at the time and they had written a song that was way too dark for the album. This was one of many conflicts #EB had with labels throughout the years which explains just having four albums released in over a decade as a band together! Anyway, the song was Slow Motion and released on the album as just this instrumental with just the chorus!

The uncensored version of this song surfaced online and became a huge cult hit finally being released in it's uncensored form on the Greatest Hits Collection. This is the darkest pop songs I've ever heard and also one of the most gorgeous pop pieces I've ever heard:

Slow Motion (Full Uncensored Version With Lyrics)

Miss Jones taught me English
But I think I just shot her son
'Cause he owed me money
With a bullet in the chest you cannot run
Now he's bleeding in a vacant lot
The one in the summer where we used to smoke pot
I guess I didn't mean it
But man, you should've seen it
His flesh explode

Slow motion, see me let go
We tend to die young
Slow motion, see me let go
What a brother knows
Slow motion, see me let go

Now the cops will get me
But girl, if you would let me
I'll take your pants off
I got a little bit of blow we could both get off
Later, bathing in the afterglow
Two lines of coke got cut with Drano
And her nose starts to bleed
A most beautiful ruby red

Slow motion, see me let go
We'll remember these days
Slow motion, see me let go
Urban life decays
Slow motion, see me let go

And at home
My sister's eating paint chips again
Maybe that's why she's insane
I shut the door to her moaning
And I shoot smack in my veins
Wouldn't you?
See my neighbor's beating his wife
Because he hates his life
There's an arc to his fist as he swings
Oh man, what a beautiful thing
And death slides close to me
Won't grow old to be
A junkie wino creep

Hollywood glamorized my wrath
I'm a young urban psychopath
I incite murder for your entertainment
'Cause I needed the money
What's your excuse?
The joke's on you

Slow motion, see me let go
Oh yeah
Slow motion, see me let go
Slow motion, see me let go

So on that note, I'll end this with the above favorite song and if anyone knows the last two albums well your contributions would be awesome! Anyway, this is a highly underrated group that deserved their own thread so here it is! :grinthumb

Cool stuff...listened a bit and will check out the rest later. That last track is a wild combination between words and melody. Dark indeed.

Yep, I love that song as morbid as it is but their lyrics were always darker behind the pop rock sound they had! :grinthumb

Here's a track I really liked off the third release which I don't own!

not really a fan but have seen them a few times because my friends band (The Upwelling) has been their warmup act on a few tours. I like a few of their songs.

Those are some cool picks Rob! :grinthumb

Hey, a few songs is better than disliking them. The crowd that attended the concert I went to luckily was crazily enthused over every song! Great experience! :grinthumb

Here are some cool tracks I've heard off of

Arguably the best scene in this movie is this use of Jumper to prevent a man from jumping off the ledge! :heheh: On a side note, the actor Luiz Guzman, in this scene is awesome and is one of my favorite character actors ever! He also shops at my crappy Wal-Mart on occasion! :grinthumb

Soot you just made me like another band:tup:

The first one you posted is in American Pie and every time I see that part I love the song, I never knew who it was though... I liked pretty much all the other songs posted too, I'm definitely checking their debut out, I'll work my way up from there:D

Awesome Eberg! They were part of my high school years so I liked them enough but it took a mega fan to expose me to more of their material for me to like them even more. I would not have heard the lyrical version of Slow Motion which is my favorite from them with a mega fan! That's what I love about music. There is always stuff to find and an addict to get you addicted and vice versa. True music fans are the ones who are more passionate about spreading what they like rather than what they don't! :grinthumb
