I've just noticed on BBC 4 tonight (Sat 17th August) 10:30pm is Quadrophenia: Can You See the Real Me, a programme about the making of The Who's sixth studio album. This is followed by The Who at the Electric Proms from 2006 (Endless Wire).

Wasn't this originally supposed to be Townshend's Lifehouse concept album but got derailed because no one quite understood the concept or was that the next album?

Lifehouse was intended as the follow up to Tommy. After it was abandoned, most of the ideas ended up on Who's Next (which was the next abum), with some on Odds 'n' Sods.

Always interesting to dig into the history behind old classic albums. I picked up a beautiful new HQ vinyl copy of Who's Next a couple weeks ago, sounds great. Been tempted to get Quadrophenia as well...but haven't yet maybe if it goes on sale it's almost $50 for the double gatefold. I consider those two albums the Who's finest.

When Quadrophenia was released it cost about £4.00, which seemed a lot at the time, but it was beautifully packaged and you got the story, the photos and lyrics. Although the documentary was presented as new, I think I've seen it before. I've certainly seen a lot of the footage and very little of the analysis was new. It was no problem seeing it again, I never ever tire of hearing The Who. Townshend is an insane genius.

^^Pete Townshend is definitely a creative genius, but I have to admit I lost a lot of respect for him years ago after his lame explanation about why he was visiting certain online sites and the resulting police investigation.:wtf:

I could give a shit what internet sites any adult browses or for that matter what any artist does when he isn't doing his craft. Any monitoring of someone's internet activity is the real crime if you ask me. It is akin to thought policing.

^^Normally I would agree with you but Not when it's about child pornography that is something I take seriously and Townshend was lucky to escape charges when he tried to explain what he was doing.

I have no sympathy for anyone caught visiting/posting on sites like that period.:nw:

The Quadrophenia programme is repeated this Friday 23rd August.

I have to admit I have a problem with the accusations against Townshend, but I listen to The Who and cannot help liking what I hear. I cannot stand Roger Waters, Bryan Ferry and Ted Nugent, but I still like Pink Floyd, Roxy Music and Nugent's albums (as long as he isn't singing).

I agree with Khor's point about monitoring the internet as this is a sore point in the UK at the moment. Our government want people to opt out of porn sites and various other sites. They seem to be entirely the wrong people to pass judgement on what others see on the internet.

I draw the line at child pornography, I find that disgusting whether it's online or anywhere else period. No normal person would ever feel the need to visit one, and Townshend's lame excuse didn't hold up either, he should have gone to a psychiatrist and figured things out from there.

One thing about online activity that I also find damning of the human species 2 of the biggest money making ventures are porn and gambling...gotta love the way we corrupt everything we touch.:nw:
