I was still glum 15 years later, after John Lennon's death, when I read with disbelief and growing excitement, that the surviving Beatles were reuniting
with The late John Lennon, utilizing Lennon's home demos and building "new"
Beatles songs with them.. Unbelievable! And the archives of unreleased
songs from the sixties were being released as well, and a TV Special! For
3 night! WOW WOW WOW

This was so great on so many levels, first we get to hear new Beatle music!
second, the man who killed Lennon didint win, we would see the Beatles
after all! Impossible as it seemed!

I was euphoric for awhile, No Free As A Bird, and Real Love were not the best things they had ever done, but they were good, it sounded like them, and the video of Free As A Bird! Wow like a new yellow submarine!

But then I was gloomy, why? Because two songs was too short a reunion. And to really get the full Beatle experience, you have to have at least a couple songs by Paul and George, Great as Lennon was, he was only one part of the Beatles singing and songwriting,

I felt they

should have Done either a full album, or at least an EP with five or six songs, at least One McCartney tune and one Harrison tune,,,put them all on a disc together , get that experience of Going from a John tune to a Paul tune and all that.

Well Harrison pulled the plug, he did a few songs and didint want to do more without Lennon, or with McCartney, whichever way it was...

Well after years and years of Research, I now know.,.. that for starters
a third song called "NOW AND THEN" another of the Lennon demos, was half finished back in 1995, and in the last few years, McCartney has gone back and finished NOW AND THEN>>>... another Beatles record just sitting there,
on the Shelf.

There is a second Beatle reunion song, "ALL FOR LOVE" co-written by McCartney/Harrison and recorded for two days in March 1995 at McCartneys studio. Harrison and McCartney had some sort of argument, possibly about
the direction the song or recording should take, and they abandoned the track after two days, so far as I know.. How finished it was , or is , is open
to some debate.McCartney apparently was hopeful "ALL FOR LOVE" could be finished and used.

Also the Beatles briefly worked on the Lennon song "Grow Old With Me" before abandoning it early on in favor of the other songs..

So for closure and the complete Beatle reunion experience, I would like to
see those two songs released "Now and Then" and "All For Love"
and the best of the sixties songs still remaing in the archives, Carnival of Light, Sour Milk Sea, Peggy Sue Got Married, and a few others

what about you what do you think of the whole thing

Wasn't aware of any of that WhoBeatle...not surprised they had a dispute and walked away before going very far with the whole concept though. From what I do understand Paul was the "perfectionist" in the band when it came to recording. And considering George had firmly established himself as a solo artist capable of writing good songs I would think he just didn't want to go through all the drama over again in the studio.

I am happy with the music they have all left us, as a band and solo recordings.

I see no need to continue with this effort especially with George and John both gone and Ringo and Paul still doing their own music.

What he said.

If George was still alive, though it would be very hard to replace Lennon, it would be somewhat plausible. But, with the both of them gone, it's just impossible.

With all due respect, that isin't what I said. To replace Lennon.
What I was trying to say is this.

There are four reunion songs by the Beatles not just the two
that were released. I would very badly like to see all four songs
released, for my personal pleasure, and for the historical record.
I said three of the songs feature Lennon demos, and the fourth
is a co-write by McCartney/Harrison.

I also said, I wish they had done a whole album while they had
the chance, half with Lennon demos, and half with new songs by
the three of them.

I also said I would like to see the last remaining tracks from the sixties
released, namely.. Carnival of Light, Sour Milk Sea, Peggy Sue Got married
and a few other alternate versions of well known songs.

the four reunion songs are

FREE AS A BIRD

REAL LOVE

NOW AND THEN

ALL FOR LOVE

I meant what LG was saying in the post before mine.

But yeah I agree. The one I would like to hear most would be Carnival of Light. From what I've read, it sounds really interesting. And I don't think its ob one of my 2000 boots I have :bonk:

If the songs are unrelased from the 60's then I have no problem with them finally being offered.

Really though they should have already bundled them with any of the numerous compilation albums and the recent "Remasters" series was the perfect opportunity.

I never wanted to see a reunion without John Lennon period.

It's not just loyality..it's just it wasn't the same without John...it wasn't like he was a quiet unknown member...I mean really ?

I am the odd man out/i NEVER liked either Free As A Bird or Real Love

mainly because it DOESN'T sound like Beatles..it sounds like they took a tape /mixed in the other three and INSTANT FAB SOUP..Hot but not too satisfying...it's bland..it not THE BEATLES..it ok..but who wants ok? I dunno I know it's my opinion ..any most fans love it..I JUST don't..it's quality is poor .It not the fab..theres no soul in those songs..there no John..no REAL John..lifeless

it's fine if they want get together and play but I mainlly I go with

Georges' opinion 'As far as I'm concerned, there will be no Beatles reunion as long as John Lennon remains dead.'

The 2000 are from the Beatles.

I posted a pic of my itunes library a while back, I'll try to find the thread again, which had like 1400 or so, and I've acquired about 500 more. Most of them are home recordings or twenty second alternate version sections of songs. Then there's one where Lennon just kind of starts muttering "oh yeah, the motherf***ers" for about thirty seconds or so.

Still haven't found the Elusive 40 minute version of Helter Skelter, or Carnival of Light.
