I was still glum 15 years later, after John Lennon's death, when I read with disbelief and growing excitement, that the surviving Beatles were reuniting
with The late John Lennon, utilizing Lennon's home demos and building "new"
Beatles songs with them.. Unbelievable! And the archives of unreleased
songs from the sixties were being released as well, and a TV Special! For
3 night! WOW WOW WOW
This was so great on so many levels, first we get to hear new Beatle music!
second, the man who killed Lennon didint win, we would see the Beatles
after all! Impossible as it seemed!
I was euphoric for awhile, No Free As A Bird, and Real Love were not the best things they had ever done, but they were good, it sounded like them, and the video of Free As A Bird! Wow like a new yellow submarine!
But then I was gloomy, why? Because two songs was too short a reunion. And to really get the full Beatle experience, you have to have at least a couple songs by Paul and George, Great as Lennon was, he was only one part of the Beatles singing and songwriting,
I felt they
should have Done either a full album, or at least an EP with five or six songs, at least One McCartney tune and one Harrison tune,,,put them all on a disc together , get that experience of Going from a John tune to a Paul tune and all that.
Well Harrison pulled the plug, he did a few songs and didint want to do more without Lennon, or with McCartney, whichever way it was...
Well after years and years of Research, I now know.,.. that for starters
a third song called "NOW AND THEN" another of the Lennon demos, was half finished back in 1995, and in the last few years, McCartney has gone back and finished NOW AND THEN>>>... another Beatles record just sitting there,
on the Shelf.
There is a second Beatle reunion song, "ALL FOR LOVE" co-written by McCartney/Harrison and recorded for two days in March 1995 at McCartneys studio. Harrison and McCartney had some sort of argument, possibly about
the direction the song or recording should take, and they abandoned the track after two days, so far as I know.. How finished it was , or is , is open
to some debate.McCartney apparently was hopeful "ALL FOR LOVE" could be finished and used.
Also the Beatles briefly worked on the Lennon song "Grow Old With Me" before abandoning it early on in favor of the other songs..
So for closure and the complete Beatle reunion experience, I would like to
see those two songs released "Now and Then" and "All For Love"
and the best of the sixties songs still remaing in the archives, Carnival of Light, Sour Milk Sea, Peggy Sue Got Married, and a few others
what about you what do you think of the whole thing
