What cooling fans are you two talking about? I must have missed that convo.

I don't worry much about it where I live, the basement here is cool all the time.
back when we were talking about the old Sherwood working overtime with those 4ohm M40's then George offered a source.

too much time in the Nirvana thread :D bwahahahaha

I had to get the temp sensor...couldn't resist. I'd spend time thinking about how I could manufacturer one up. I am a bit of an electrical nut

Hot and cool...

^^Those look really similar to the fans in my PC case, except the connectors of course.

Definitely a good thing to keep the gear as cool as possible, extends the life of the parts for a long time.

Having my stuff in the basement does have advantages, it's about 70 degrees all the time winter or summer.
They are essential in some rigs, I agree. Last thing anyone wants to see is for a component to shut down because it overheated.

Do you drive your system loud? I mean not "arena" loud if you know what I mean. During the summer even at 70 degrees my Parasound gets hot to the touch on the fins at -10 volume during two channel sessions or concert blu-rays. When it is part of watching a movie with multi channel formats it is barely warm even with action flicks. The fans really do a nice job in keeping the internals cool.

^^No I am modest these days with the volume George too many years of operating heavy equipment has damaged my hearing so I don't crank stuff up anymore. I still enjoy music but the days of shaking the foundation are over for me.

wow those fans are working great. they clear the warm air right out of the Sherwood almost instantly. definitely can move some air.

I couldn't get them to trigger the temp sensor so I detached it and went straight through to the fans.

the transformer has a voltage switch you can use to speed up or slow down the fan speed. neat flexible little ways to control the fans.

we'll see if they stand the test of time but I have to say I think that's NOT going to be an issue at all.

^^Sounds like it's going to work great for you Jim...and the Sherwood should last for a long time. I don't worry about heat as I told George the days of rocking down the block are long gone for me, I still enjoy a solid thump though.

Hmmm... I thought it was supposed to come on when it reaches 84 degrees. Good to hear they are fitting the bill for you. Nice to see you have skills to re-do them too.

Bruce is lucky he has a basement that doesn't get overly warm...and his hearing is still there. :D

I don't have a stereo. *hides*

I listen thru itunes on my comp or occasionally give my CDs a spin on the home theatre system.

Of course, the latter sounds sooooooo much better.. obviously.

^^I consider a home theater a stereo Musikwala.

After playing around with 'streaming' I'm not really impressed either with audio or especially video. Nothing beats a 'real physical copy' in my opinion except the studio 24-96 or 24-192 HQ releases you can get from high end sites.

Ahh in that case, I have an LG home theatre system with the 2 front and 2 back tower-like speakers. Listening to CDs on it is great fun! But sadly, I seldom listen to music that way nowadays*. It is much more convenient to play from itunes or stream from Grooveshark.

* not to mention the number of physical CD albums I own is dwindling compared to the much higher number of digital albums I have.

^^Whatever works for you is all that's important, but I don't like itunes or much of anything Apple releases, it's a religious thing with me.......:heheh:

I did try it a few years ago but found I like more flexible apps for mucking around with music on my PC or my Sansa.

I am deadset against the current 'digital download' plague, I don't mind if they offer that along with physical copies but not exclusively.:nw:

You can never put all your eggs in one basket which is what is happening right now, and I don't trust any of the mega-corporations period, they don't give a rats ass about us it's all about the bottom line for them.
