Marantz

^I've always liked Marantz products. They utilize their own off the shelf modules for their processors and receivers which has that distinct sound. Smooth, mellow and warm sounding which some audiophiles describe as "forgiving" when it comes to inferiorly mixed recordings. They are now I believe a "sister" company to Denon.

My Sony equipment right now amounts to my Sony BR player, that's it. That's only because their BR players are (or at least were) some the better made (I wonder why). I did have a Sony WEGA 36" flat screen television. This was full Tube television, not the throw LCD crap of today. That was nice equipment right there.

Most of their stuff is over priced for what your getting. Top of line price but not performance. all sony sizzle and no steak. and I have never liked any of their audio stuff.

I'm with George and I have never but anything other than JVC for VHS.

CD players/changers are soon going to be extinct as everything goes to streaming from the cloud, except the mid-high end companies who might still make players. This is driven by the media companies who are all moving from physical to 'theoretical' formats. Everyone knows how unimpressed I am with that whole concept.

And you know how I feel about it.

But I am holding out hope that the media won't go away completely. Maybe just maybe some of the upcoming generation are going to be a little suspect about what's happening and just keep media. but then again

It will take someone going out of business and people finding out they don't have their music anymore and they have to rebuy it. or When they realize "the Cloud" is really just some server sitting in some data center owned by some company bilking their money and sending music to their device at that companies convenience.

^^I bought a state of the art Mitsubishi VCR back in the day, it cost me about $1800, it was like a home studio all the features it had built in and movies looked and sounded great. I took it in to get serviced years ago, the amateur technician working on it broke the audio input controls, then tried to tell me they needed to be replaced. I almost punched him out in the shop, I picked up my VCR and paid the service charge and never went back to those shysters again. I ended up recycling it after making the switch to DVD's. I wished I had kept it looking back, just because it was such a beautiful piece and well made, but it's too late now.

^^ I kept the WEGA around for almost three years trying to get it fixed. I wanted to keep it around working, but not working it was just a giant piece of un usable furniture.

I had similar VCR experience with some amateur with a shop. I had one the early 4 Head HI FI VCR's, that thing was like gold to me. there was an issue with the tracking knob when it went in. I got a call saying the heads were hosed, my response was how can it be that your looking at the heads when it was a physical tracking knob issue.

that part they couldn't explain and so I paid them nothing and got my wrecked VCR back but it was basically a paper weight at that point.

My cooling fans hit the door today. Oh they are nice indeed. got the model with the temp sensor.

My pleasure Jim. Always good to help someone out.

It should benefit your gear to avoid any potential problems. I never did get the one with the sensor and just went with the regular ones hooked up to a un-switched outlet on my pre. It runs when I power up the unit so it gets a head start.

I don't worry much about it where I live, the basement here is cool all the time.

You're fortunate. We don't have the cool temps here all the time. During summer, it gets really warm. Have my amps on top of the a/v cabinet but still use the fans.

^^Those look really similar to the fans in my PC case, except the connectors of course.

Definitely a good thing to keep the gear as cool as possible, extends the life of the parts for a long time.

Having my stuff in the basement does have advantages, it's about 70 degrees all the time winter or summer.
