Still over the moon with my speakers.
I may look at some stands in due course.

The roller did not have to do much since the vinyl has already gone through the spin clean. Whatever came through afterwards however minute was picked up.

Thirty bones is a LOT to give up but it did stabilize the LP into the platter during playback. Whether it bettered the sound is subjective or it was a negligible effect... Then there's:

I removed my turntable's stock feet and installed the above two types as a combination. The isolators at the bottom with the cones [ball bearing up] as replacements. Whoa...! Did not think there was going to be a difference but THERE it was. The vocals were locked in with no smear around the edges. Bass, low end sounds tighter. Midrange was sharper, better definition...highs had more air. Not trying to sound like an audio magazine reviewer but there are no other words to describe it. Original plan was the isolators for the turntable with the cones for the pre-amp so it looks like I will have to order another quartet of each.

I like the look of that Roller, might have to get one myself.

The stabilizer works on really badly warped albums, I've noticed a difference and makes tracking it a lot easier on the tonearm/cartridge.

My Thorens has really good "feet", I noticed a difference right away compared to my old TT...so I'm not sure I need to get isolators. But if you've noticed an improvement then they're a good pick up George.

You've been busy.:D

Hey Bruce... Thorens is a big step up from a Numark so I figure the latter's build is top notch including the feet. My Numark is no lightweight though at 20 odd pounds. Had it not been repairable, I would have picked up a Music Hall.

That roller is good for picking up tinny particles of dust that float in even after cleaning. Supposedly it lasts forever given proper handling. I don't think it would be better than the Spin-Clean on its own though.

You're likely right about the clamp improving the tracking on the vinyl. With it in place, the Vibras and the new Shure cartridge, the presentation is like night and day from the Staton.

BTW, how do you compare your now "tube" set-up from the previous one without it? I reckon it is a new experience? Did it tame the glare whenever you play a CD? Did it improve the analog side of things too?

I like the idea of the roller and easy to clean just like my stylus cleaner, it works great and you just rinse it off with water and it's good as new.

I did consider heavier clamps but I wanted to try out a modest one first and so far I'm satisfied. I was amazed at how expensive the heavier metal ones were and am not sure I want to put that much strain on my belt drive TT.

The tube amplifier is nicely broken in, I have a complete set of new tubes but haven't swapped them in yet. There is definitely a softer warmer sound with my CD's, which is the main reason I wanted to try a tube rig in the first place. I haven't listened to my vinyl on it yet, still busy cleaning old records and sorting them out.

Eventually I'll have everything organized and do a few tests, just for fun.

Good to hear you are loving your speakers. I assume they have they been broken in? How long did it take?
Re speaker break in.This caught me by suprise.I got them cheap from a shop that was going bust and did not try them.Just took a massive leap of faith after reading reviews. When i got them home they were very bright and had crystal clear sound.I did not expect them to break in at all but after about 2 months ive noticed a difference. Its very difficult to articulate but everything sounds more together and the bass has improved. My i pod settings are set flat(no eq)The speakers are monitor speakers so you cant play about with the tone controls much.So in essence what you get is how it was actually recorded.Im fine with that as i like an honest sound.Im tied to the monster brand cable as it has 8 connector pins.I managed to crank up Tangerine dream Phaedra the other day.....surreal...You have probably had the same experience but the sound went through my body due to the volume-sod the neighbours:pullhair:

Buzzkill...

So I get home and I hear this buzzing... Following the sound and wondering what it could be, it turns out to be one of my Mirage subs upstairs. Ugh... Plugging and unplugging it did not cure its ills. Now I am weighing the option of buying another one or getting it fixed.

^^That's too bad George, I have a 15 year old Mirage sub myself, it's making a little hum these days and I haven't used it for a long time. It's not worth fixing, if it was a butyl rubber 10" surround instead of foam I might consider buying a new plate amp and putting it in they aren't that expensive.

I bought a massive subwoofer last summer, and it's so powerful it scares me at times.:heheh:

Sigh... I employ a stereo subwoofer set up in both systems. To me it fills the room much better Bruce. The buzz is loud too so much so it took awhile for me to trace where it was coming from. My older Velodynes are still going on strong [knock on wood]...

What sub did you get? I can bet it must shake the place if you find it scary. :D
