Re: Styx

^^ YOU DID! ...and you've heard them..well cool. Awesome right? You still hear this style carried over a bit in Equinox and Crystal Ball (Tommy's first album) but still those two are the bridge into new territory.

All of it's amazing but those first 4 are just mesmerizing! :grinthumb

I look forward to listening to these again, I`ve been pondering over buying the early stuff but other things kept getting in the way.

Thanks again for making my mind up for me :grinthumb

Re: Styx

Pieces of Eight and Grand Illusion are my two favorites, but I like their early recordings as well, before Tommy Shaw joined the band.

I've heard that "Gowan" has done a fabulous job on vocals since he replaced Dennis DeYoung, but haven't seen Styx live myself.

I like Gowans vocals, live he was excellent and did the DDY songs justice! :)

Re: Styx

Yes, yes he does and he's a GREAT showman. The only thing I don't like is his vibrato. Dennis has a nice steady vibrato where Gowan's is pretty fast. Not really my cup of tea...but his album tracks and his performance on the live DVD kills for sure.

Re: Styx

This is a KILLER medley and shows how great STYX are as a band but here's what ****** me off. At 2:24 they go into Mr. Roboto. Now you would think with ALL the public belly aching by the band about this album and song that they wouldn't play it.

I mean I like it and have always defended the record but the hypocrisy kills me.

Re: Styx

I have seen Styx twice with Gowan and he was pretty good.I have never seen DeYoung solo but he has a guy that sings the Tommy Shaw songs.I wonder how good he sounds

Styx is out on the round this summer with Yes.
