Tragic enough he was killed in a helicopter crash after leaving a performance,in which Eric Clapton took part.Clapton also exited by helicopter on the same night. This could have easily been him instead. No to undermine Vaughns utterly astounding guitar skills and creativities, but the loss of God would have been a bigger hit to the classic rock world.Vaughm finished inside the top ten(I believe number six)on the Rolling Stone greatest guitarists list I read in 2003.(Clapton placed fourth behind BB King,Duane Allman and,of course, the cosmic Jimi Hendrix)

SRV was in the first ever Don't mess with Texas campaign spot first airing in January 1986. Don't mess with Texas is the Texas Department of Transportation's litter prevention campaign.

One of my favorite Stevie video moments. If you watch around the 13 minute mark, you will see him break a string and replace (with a great assist) guitars in mid-stream.
