My first exposure to sonic youth in a sense was actually the Simpsons episode where Homer goes to Hullabalooza (lollapalooza) and sonic youth is there (also smashing punpkins) the onyl reason I bring it up is that show was made when they were still a symbol of youth, which makes it rather funny to look at that picture of them now
I personally love their cover of the Carpenters "Superstar" and also Kissability, which i quote a fair bit despite absolutely everyone missing the reference.
Great Band!!
Here's my favorite song by them of of my favorite album by them (Dirty):
Of course myself being a NY Dolls fan... this cover by Sonic Youth was from a Flexi Disc on Sassy Magazine. It sounds like a cross between the Dolls & the Velvet Underground
I thought this tune was great, it was by the Dim Stars who featured Thurston Moore & Steve Shelley along with Richard Hell. It's kind of a slow plodding updated version of Hell's punk anthem "Blank Generaation". They released an ep (Which I have on cassette somewhere).
