I just think it's ridiculously childish for him to say anything. It's like they're in grade school and saying mine is better than yours. I would have respected him had he said...'no comment' or 'I wish them the best', especially if there is bad blood between them. And that goes for any artist criticizing another artist. Like Elton John/Madonna or Madonna/Lady Gaga (the ones I heard recently) or whoever. They are professionals in the business and should act that way.

Sounds like someone is insecure about their music.

There is no way Sammy will ever keep it shut JG...he's got an opinion about everything especially his old band.

I do think he would be better served to enjoy Chickenfoot and move on, but that's not likely to happen anytime soon.

If he thinks his music is better though why the need to say it? If he is really that confident his music is of a higher level then he has nothing to prove. Then again it would not surprise me if he was misquoted by the media. Media is never trustworthy.

I don't know what Sammy has to prove really. He made two great albums (along with an entire history of making great albums).

I think he should just be like Mike and count his blessings that Chickenfoot ended up a success.

If fact somebody tell Sammy that VH are so huge they should even have their own private CRF forum, as 9 of the last 17 threads on 'Music News' have all been about them!! LOL

I really think some in here who praise the Halens and bad mouth Sammy should read this book..

You guys have no idea just what Sammy went through working with Alex and Eddie who were nothing more than arrogant and alcoholics..
Does anybody here realize that Eddie dosn't write music??? Dave wrote all the early stuff and Sammy wrote the later stuff..
Every since Sammy was in Montrose he was treated like a threat because he could come up with winning songs.
Ronnie Montrose pretty much kicked him out of the band because he became a threat and since Ronnie was Montrose, he couldn't have Sammy running things..
The same thing happened with Eddie and Alex..
Sammy was really helping the band recover from losing Dave as the frontman, But drinking problems ruined it because Eddie and Alex couldn't shake the need to be drunk all the time.. Alex finally had to have a intervention to get him sober.. Eddie drank more and went way down hill and started to really mess things up..
Remember this???

This is what Eddie was at the end of the Van Halen days with Sammy..
Also poor management could have added to the band not getting off the ground in the end.
so take in account.. If they are using already written material that was un-released.. Well what does that say about who's writing the songs now..
Sammy is a professional.. Always has been.. He may be mouthy about this whole thing but maybe he's trying to kick the Halens in the ass to make them try harder. He knows they have talent.. Just mis-direction..

I read the book ... :D That's about the only reason why I know as much as I do about the situation. Of course there's "three sides to every story" and I think one has to take some of what Sammy says with a grain of salt. Clearly Sammy is a very driven person. He is so GO-GO-GO I felt exhausted by the time I finished just from reading! The portions about Sammy and the VH brothers seriously had me going :wtf: My impression is that Sammy isn't bearing any ill will against the VH brothers. It's like you said, Slippin', that Sammy knows VH can do better and honestly wants to see them at their best.

I didn't realize that Dave did any more than the lyrics and maybe a few music ideas here and there. Honestly I haven't ever taken the time to read the liner notes/credits on VH albums. I'd assumed Dave and Eddie had a words/music sort of partnership going on.

I felt when Sammy first joined VH he was bringing an extra dimension to the band (since I perceived him to be a more rounded and complete musician than Dave) and thought that was what I heard in 5150.

Some very good points you make there Slip, though I still think Sammy Hagar is a blow-hard. Eddie looks pretty wasted there, but these things are all relative, for the past 30 years, even on a good day for him, Keith Richard still makes Eddie at his worst look like some fitness video bimbo!...

People should read Keith's book "Life", as far as he's concerned, anyone who does less than two bottles of Jack Daniels, a 120-pack of Marlboros, 50 assorted pills, and a couple of gram of heroin each day, is a wimp!!

Considering the silly stuff Sammy keeps saying to reporters, I wouldn't trust anything he wrote in his book to be factually accurate.

Is he a good artist? YES. Is he being a petty little ***** with the current Van Halen situation? YES. If his band is half as good as he says they are, he doesn't need to act so insecure about it. Just makes Chickenfoot look bad for Sammy to prove time and time again that he is still enamored with Van Halen. Almost makes it seem like Sammy would rather still be in Van Halen like he was a few years ago. I mean: what do you do when you want the red ball but another kid takes it? You huff and pout and say "fine, I didn't want the red ball anyway. My blue ball is WAY better."
