BLOOD REDSKIES/ex-VICIOUS RUMORS vocalist Ronnie Stixx has released the following statement regarding the passing of legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW):

"It has taking me a few days to take in the death of my hero...

"When I heard he had cancer, I said to myself, 'he is going to beat this,' and when I heard he passed, I was crushed.

"When I heard the news of his passing on Sunday morning, I canceled a gig that I had booked that same night with my BLACK SABBATH/DIO tribute MOB RULES.

"There are just no words any one can say to ease the pain of this loss.

"Ronnie James Dio took us on a journey deep with our minds and soul... with a voice of an angel that no else has ever done. And has given us the sign of things metal — 'the mighty metal horns.'

"Ronnie has now truly earned his wings of steel in heaven. There is only thing one can say about Ronnie Jame Dio — long live the king of rock 'n' roll.

"He will forever be our rainbow in the dark."

Here is a video of a news report. Ronnie being interviewed in the hospital. It really looks like he was going through hell. It's so sad....his pain is over...ours have just begun. We will miss you Ronnie..our metal LEADER!!!

TRIUMPH Drummer Remembers RONNIE JAMES DIO - May 21, 2010
Gil Moore, drummer for Canadian hard rock legends TRIUMPH, has released the following statement to Goldmine magazine regarding the passing of Ronnie James Dio (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW)

"He was a great singer. And it's a tragedy to see him die so early in life. I mean, he wasn't young, but he sure wasn't old.

"He had one of the best voices. His first record with RAINBOW … that really blew me away. I just about wore out the cassette playing it. This guy had a freight train of a voice. He really did.

"We would see Ronnie backstage. He would show up at TRIUMPH shows with quite a bit of regularity. He'd show up at our show and come backstage. And he was always a great guy."

CHUCK GARRIC: Playing With RONNIE JAMES DIO Launched My Whole Career - May 20, 2010
Former DIO and current ALICE COOPER bassist Chuck Garric spoke to the Tahoe Daily Tribune about the passing of legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW).

"I called Ronnie a couple of times but he was really sick," said Garric. "He was living in privacy and I gave him his privacy. ... I just dropped him a line to tell him I was thinking about him."

Garric played in the band DIO in 1999 and 2000.

"Getting to play with Ronnie is what launched my whole career," Garric said. "I wouldn't be in ALICE COOPER if it hadn't have been for Ronnie James Dio. He gave me my break."

"He was one of the nicest and sweetest guys you could imagine," Garric said. "I felt at home as soon as I walked into the rehearsal room and played with Ronnie. It just felt natural and comfortable. He was just a pleasure to be around."

CARMINE APPICE: RONNIE JAMES DIO 'Was The Best Heavy Metal Singer To Ever Live' - May 20, 2010
Legendary drummer Carmine Appice (SLAMM, VANILLA FUDGE, ROD STEWART, OZZY OSBOURNE, TED NUGENT) has released the following statement regarding the passing of Ronnie James Dio (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW):

"I've known Ronnie since his days with RAINBOW. He was the best heavy metal singer to ever live. He had so much power in his voice it was so intense. He wrote great metal anthems.

"I really got to know him well when my brother [Vinny Appice] started working with him in BLACK SABBATH, then DIO. He was part of our family, coming to family functions for holidays, weddings etc. He even came to my bachelor party and wedding in 1983. He was friends with my kids; he was family.

"We spent all day Saturday [May 15] at the hospital. It was sad to see him like that.

"He was truly loved by millions and by all the people he worked with.

"All his close friends were around him at this time. Again, truly loved by all his friends; amazing love from all.

"It is hard to believe he is gone. His spirit of life will live on in his music and we will never forget Ronnie James Dio, the great heavy metal singer, a friend for years and a brother to my brother Vinny.

"I've sent my sympathies out to Wendy [Ronnie's wife/manager] and Ronnie's family, as well as my brother Vinny, along with Geezer [Butler] and Tony [Iommi].

"Ronnie, we love you bro. 'You will be missed' is an understatement!!

BLACK SABBATH's BILL WARD 'Extends Positive Thoughts' To All Those Who Loved DIO - May 20, 2010
BLACK SABBATH drummer Bill Ward has released the following statement regarding the passing of legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW):

"My wife and I have sent our condolences and have felt very sad with the news of Ronnie's passing.

"We wish to extend our positive thoughts and love to all those who loved Ronnie, and we salute him as a singer, performer, songwriter and arranger.

"We plan to make no further statements and prefer to remain private at this time."

In a recent interview with BackstageAxxess.com, Bill Ward explained why he terminated his involvement with HEAVEN & HELL — the band featuring fellow SABBATH members Tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass) and Dio — in November 2006 while the group was recording three new tracks to be included on the BLACK SABBATH collection "Black Sabbath: The Dio Years". "I had some reservations going in," he said. "However, when we actually started to play the songs, I liked the songs and the music won me over. Unfortunately, for me, I had a bit of a difficult time bringing some chops to the guys, especially Ronnie, who wanted a certain kind of feel.

"I'm not very good in being able to play to cater to musicians in a way that they might want something to be heard (laughs). It's the difference between being a drummer and an orchestrated drummer. I play in an orchestrated way. Whereas a drummer, you can give the drummer notes, and he will play the notes. So it sounds like a little bit of fish out of water. Not quite comfortable.

"There were some other instances where I felt very uncomfortable with [the HEAVEN & HELL situation]. All in all, it made it very difficult for me to try to lay the tracks as I was hoping I could for the guys and for myself. I needed to be happy in this, too! It just didn't work out. I feel if I had enough [learning] time… I had about a week to learn three songs. To me that's not enough time as a drummer. I like to be able to know what the hell I'm doing and I was at a place at the time where I was still feeling the tracks out. I was still getting used to the tracks. It takes me a while to get where I want to be when I'm rehearsing songs. I wasn't able to slot in what they wanted me to be. It was incompatible and it didn't work out."
